Email to student after tutoring them

I recently worked with a student to prepare them for university admissions tests and interviews.

They recently sent me an email to thank me for the tuition.

I'd like to reply, just saying that I really enjoyed working with them and that I wish them all the best for the result of the admissions test. Only problem is that I can't think of a non-clumsy way of wording it.

So far, I've got:

Hi X,

Thanks so much for your email.

It's been a pleasure to work with you to prepare for the test and interviews. I wish you all the best for the future. (

Sounds good

That sounds fine.

I always end up sounding a bit impersonal to my pupils when I email them because the alternative is over familiar or patronising and worse, I think! I have looked over reports and thought they sounded only a dim reflection of the actual personal relationship we’ve had and their unique qualities. I think it’s just the written word - the relationships are much better expressed in person. So I think your email is fine.

I tutor at times, and will often say something like at the end of the emai - do let me know how it goes. Then if they email to tell me they were successful, I isually write something a bit more positive and effusive! But until that happens I keep it very much like you have written in your email!

Could you just say 'it's been a pleasure helping you prepare for your interviews and test and I hope everything goes well for you'?

I'd drop the 'whenever it's convenient' from the email bit, that sounds slightly odd. Agree with the PP to ask them to let you know how it goes.

Thanks everyone :)

Do you think it's okay if I change the first paragraph slightly to read:

'It's been a pleasure to work with you to prepare for the test and interviews. Do let me know how it goes. I wish you all the best for the future.'

Sorry noble, just seen your post! Will change it to what you've said - sounds really good :)
