To think Christmas is a nightmare for cinnamon haters

It's bad enough during the rest of the year making sure it doesn't sneak into apple crumble and pie and perfectly lovely without lamb. But by golly from Halloween to New Year it's bloody everywhere. If it's not in your food it's in your drink plus everywhere is pumping the scent of it out. AIBU to call for a ban ON THE WORST SPICE EVER

But the absolute worst is dill.

IrkThePurist · 19/12/2017 22:59

KnobJockey
gingerbread has cinnamon in it as well as ginger. See, you do like cinnamon.

Giggorata · 19/12/2017 22:59

Agree, cinnamon is total poo...

I actually can't eat anything with cinnamon or ginger in it without getting awful stomach cramps, learnt the hard way when making them digesting a gingerbread house! I despise them, especially when I had morning sickness and everyone told me to have some ginger

KenDoddsDadsDog · 19/12/2017 23:06

I love it in food . But not the awful scent of stuff like Yankee candles .

BonjourMeDarlin · 19/12/2017 23:11

I used to love cinnamon until I was sniffing the mega sized container of if that I bought, I got a bit excited and squeezed it and It went everywhere
I smelt like a cinnamon bun for hours.

SparklingSnowfall · 19/12/2017 23:12

Vile, absolutely agree with dust of Satan Grin

SparklingSnowfall · 19/12/2017 23:12

Oh yes, dill, just tastes like somebody has pissed all over your meal I imagine

squoosh · 19/12/2017 23:12

I don't hate cinnamon I just hate when it's added with a really heavy hand. A teeny amount in an apple crumble is lovely. But just a teeny amount.

TEENY.

hungryhippo90 · 19/12/2017 23:13

I hate it, but mostly because of the cracking headache it leaves me with-a d yes, from 2nd week of October it's been everywhere. I always smell, and think oh so lovely christmas smell.... oh shit Cinnamon. Then need to find painkillers for the coming headache!

DuchessMinnie · 19/12/2017 23:21

I have had a strong aversion to cinnamon after drinking far too much cinnamon liqueur with pretty gold leaf in it, more than 20 years ago now. I threw up for 3 days afterwards and it was really grim. I feel a bit queasy throughout Christmas with all the candles and stuff. Everyone else seems to love it though.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 19/12/2017 23:21

Don't ever go to the Dome in Edinburgh at Christmas then. They spend £££ every year pumping cinnamon out of every nook and cranny.

I like it on porridge.

MrsJackRackham · 19/12/2017 23:22

I hate cinnamon too but at least it disguises the people who think walking about smelling like a coconut is acceptable. At least cinnamon doesn't make me feel sick 😷

TroelsLovesSquinkies · 19/12/2017 23:25

I'm with you OP I don't like it. I never have, It makes me sneeze too.

NorbertTheDragon · 19/12/2017 23:25

My DS put cinnamon in the bolognese sauce recently. It was not a good smell. Thankfully I couldn't actually taste it, but the smell was off putting. And I like cinnamon. Bloody kids experimenting with herbs and spices.

DaisysStew · 19/12/2017 23:29

Cinnamon is minging! Same with dried fruit and alcohol in puddings... which every single Christmas dessert seems to have in it (apart from good old Yule log).

FullOfXmasCheerOfCourse · 19/12/2017 23:34

Cinnamon tictacs are the best, it's great on porridge too.

BusyBeez99 · 20/12/2017 06:11

I don't like it either. Nor parsley. Have to always ask restaurants not to sprinkle on my food when they bring it over

violetbunny · 20/12/2017 06:16

Don't forget raisin haters too. Especially when people think you're weird for not wanting a mince pie, slice of Xmas cake or but of Xmas pudding.

lastnamefirstfirstnamelast · 20/12/2017 06:17

Cinnamon is a spice of reassurance.

Soon as i smell it i feel cosy.

Cinnamon and raisin bagels toasted with butter for breakfast.

I kove cinnamon.

Nutmeg onnthe other hand.....

speakout · 20/12/2017 06:24

I love cinnamon.

Anyone remember a sweet called a Tobermory Tattie? Large piece of chewy candy covered in cinnamon powder, heaps of it.

Delicious.

UserEleventyBillion · 20/12/2017 06:25

I like real cinnamon, not the fake scenty stuff which is everywhere, but those awful sickly "mulled wine" type fragrances and air fresheners are far worse. Next door has been using one for weeks that drifts in. It makes me feel a bit queasy and provides a massive festive headache it's so cloying. He must buy it by the vat!

I do have homemade cinnamon ornaments to make the tree smell nice since it is artificial but I draw a line at those smelly stick things DP wanted. Blush

speakout · 20/12/2017 06:26

For anyone wondering how to pronounce cinnamon here's a good video

( check out the you tube channel- very funny)

Beakyplinders · 20/12/2017 06:26

Cinnamon is vile and the only thing worse than eating the stuff is smelling it. This time of year everything seems to be cinnamon and clove smelling. Yuck.
