History : boss and I don't get on much - long story , huge back history but bottom line - she's cold and difficult.
This year I'm tasked with getting her pressie after a whip round ... LIGHTHEARTED.... got £21 ( doesn't say much from a team of 12 eh?) ... what shall I get?

Box of Kwality Streets from Pondland. Keep the change.

Ikabod · 19/12/2017 20:34

Just building on Allinclusive's suggestion - how about a meat tenderiser?

ProseccoMadeMeDoIt · 19/12/2017 20:36

What about this; it means she doesn't actually get a gift, the money goes to a good cause and gives her a message about empowering women 😁

Prosecco beat me to it...I was coming on to say charity donation in her name. I got someone I am (ahem) not so fond of for Secret Santa so I did just that. Better than wasting money on tat.

RadicalFern · 19/12/2017 20:40

How much is a goat?

Be3Al2SiO36 · 19/12/2017 20:41

The item you think she will like most that genuinely costs £21. And leave the label on.

It's not rocket science.

Insomnibrat · 19/12/2017 20:42

Hot water bottle?

Might thaw the frost or not

Mum2jenny · 19/12/2017 20:44

Hotel chocolat do nice boxes for £22.50, if you put a bit more money in you could get her one (and she'd love you for it)

RedForFilth · 19/12/2017 20:49

Ask the poster with the fake designer candles to send them to her?

allinclusive · 19/12/2017 21:18

Prosecco, you get my vote.

In fact I might get that for someone in my life who needs pulling up on a few things.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 19/12/2017 21:33

Jeez, you're brave! As your boss she can always make your life so much harder than you can make hers!

Doesn't sound as though she'd take anything in a lighthearted way.

MyKingdomForBrie · 19/12/2017 21:38

I would hate to get hotel chocolat. I see it recommended so many times on mumsnet, it’s really not to everyone’s taste.

That’s really not much!! I would probably get alcohol. Might make her mess up tight.

MyKingdomForBrie · 19/12/2017 21:38

*less up tight!

babyturtles · 19/12/2017 21:41

Yes, it's not to everyone's taste but with Hotel Chocolat everybody knows it's "expensive chocs" and it can be re-gifted if not your taste.

Much harder to re-gift those fanny slippers.

BestZebbie · 19/12/2017 21:43

I think you could get a lot of alcohol related tat covered in glitter from Facebook for £21

Mugshotzforlunch · 19/12/2017 22:32

Get her the Donald trump book.

NobodysChild · 19/12/2017 22:56

£21 from a team of 12? That is disgusting. It says more about the people you work with, than it does about your boss. Seeing as you are the one tasked with buying the gift that represents everyone, why not buy her a turd? But seriously, buy the woman something half decent. It's not a lot of money, but put together a hamper, or buy something that you would enjoy receiving.

Evewasinnocent · 19/12/2017 23:01

STD testing kit?

I get where you are coming from though. You need something, which on the face of it seems ok but actually isn’t. A terrible bunch of flowers and some hideous sparkling wine? Something you know she will hate - glossy book on walking/cooking/art etc - whichever she likes least? Enjoy the challenge!

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 19/12/2017 23:03

Actually NobodysChild what's disgusting IMO is any expectation that the staff should provide a gift to the boss!

MadMags · 19/12/2017 23:20

Disgusting? Really? It says about the people that they can’t stand her but feel obliged to contribute something.

Personally, I don’t see why they should get her anything!

ilovesooty · 19/12/2017 23:23

Why did you agree to take responsibility for choosing and buying the gift?

NobodysChild · 19/12/2017 23:48

I think it's more the staff feel they should get the boss a gift. If there was a whip round for someone I didn't like, I would refuse to contribute. So the contribution would be from a team of 11. The way spectacularvelvet has written it, sounds like £21 was raised from 12 contributors. If that is the case, that's £1.75per person, which is piss poor.

MissDuke · 19/12/2017 23:51

Juney you legend Grin Grin

Cantuccit · 20/12/2017 00:43

Why are you giving her a gift? Confused

Does she give staff gifts?

At my workplace, the boss gives gifts, not underlings.

CorbynsBumFlannel · 20/12/2017 01:22

A £20 voucher and a pound shop deodorant set with the price on. Unwrapped.
