Nursery assistant didn't put cream on DD...

So DP has just got home with DD who is 17mo. She has dry skin and eczema in the crease of her arm and over her legs. We've tried a few different creams but have found one that works well. It's cleared up really well but her arm is still sore and itches it if she can get to it.

Upon picking up DD this lady has informed DP that she hasn't put cream on DD because and DO quotes 'she didn't want to remind DD that she needed cream'. She doesn't need it anymore apparently Hmm

AIBU to first of all think wtf? What the heck is she on about and b) it's up to us to determine whether DD needs cream or not.

Hmmm, is it a prescription cream? Has the GP told you how often to administer it?

Ours would only put prescription stuff on and only if it couldn’t be done by parents before/ after to avoid the necessity during nursery. Needed written instructions and timing from doc.
If for a long term condition, care plan needed drawing up.
In practise, they were happy enough to use nappy cream in short term instances of rash - I think they were just over-cautious with ‘medical’ stuff.
Have the GP note number of times per day etc and give to nursery if it’s essential - we managed with before/after timings for most things as nurseries have a lot going on and it isn’t really usually necessary to have this stuff done at nursery.
Mind, i’ve had schools insist on parents turning up to do this sort of thing as staff can’t unless a care plan is in place...

That's loopy.

But dd did need cream. Htf does one 'remind' a 17mo anyway?!?

Fromage · 19/12/2017 17:36

I wonder if she just forgot and that was either a panicked excuse, or she is a bit dim and thought it was a feasible reason for not putting the cream on. I hope she gave her lunch.

" I didn't feed your dd, because I didn't want to remind her she needs food."

Well all the other staff and manager seem to be fine administrating the cream. It's not prescribed medication. It's the fact that this ladies personal opinion is impacting her practice. She even said to DP that she'll bring in the cream she uses on her DCs as it's amazing Hmm Errrrr no!

You need to ask to see their medication policy and then take it from there.

Maybe she did. Still, will be having a word with the manager tomorrow.

Batty.

What a reason! Still, you need her on side if your daughter will be attending there long term. Reiterate how she's having a flare up, hopefully will be needing less soon, but needs more during this time.
