To go to the hairdressers with dirty hair

I washed it on Friday Blush and I have an appointment to have it coloured today.
Will the hairdresser be disgusted?! I've heard it's better to be slightly dirty when having it coloured but maybe 4 days is too much Confused
The colour seems to fade very quickly anyway and I want it to last longer than usual
Advice from hairdressers would be much appreciated!!

When they say don't wash your hair I imagine they mean 1-2 days. 4 days is a bit grim IMO.

Go as you are. There’s no point in washing your hair when the hairdresser is going to finish your treatment with a wash.
It would be like cleaning up before the cleaner came, but I do understand where you’re coming from.
I usually rock up to my hairdressers with hair in need of attention, no make up and a tatty top as my hairdresser is a bit of a mucky pup who tends to flick hair dye all over the salon, but I get it depends on your relationship as to how ‘smart’ you feel you need to be.

Mine tells me off if I wash my hair before it's highlighted.

LoniceraJaponica · 19/12/2017 15:53

No it isn't that
I don't spend time in a dirty environment, and my hair doesn't resemble a grease slick after 4 days.

Blackteadrinker77 · 19/12/2017 15:58

Filthy animals! How anyone can leave the house or go to bed without freshly cleaned hair is beyond me! Imagine the dirt you’re carrying around on you. Do you have children? Are you not worried they’ll get ill from this grime you’re infesting your house with?

Won't somebody think of the children? .................

horatioisabrick · 19/12/2017 16:02

that

1-2 days? My hair would be a frizzy heap of straw if I washed my hear every second (or even 3rd...) day.

It probably depends on the individual. As long as your hair still looks nice and isn't stinky....?

Ha ha to those saying it's dirty not to wash hair every day. How very dare you (cheekily). This is really awful for your hair. I know some people have to wash hair every day as it needs it. I have a friend that washes her hair and after 1 sleep on it its a greasy mess so she has no choice

I have fresh hair on day 1, still fresh on day 2. I usually tie the front up in a twist. Day 3 I have a pony tail and it is not greasy but I wash it on day 3 evening as it will defo be greasy on day 4. This way colour lasts much longer and I am not stripping my hair every day of natural oils.

Every 2 or 3 weeks I slather in coconut oil and sit with a shower cap for an hour or two and then shampoo it out and my hair is so silky.

I'm a hairdresser and the truth is that colour takes better on non wash hair. And also the more you wash your hair, the more they get greasy.😏

LollaLaLuna · 19/12/2017 16:37

Actually not more, but faster.

Surely one of the great pleasures in life is leaving your hair for that extra day before a hair appointment and having someone else do it for you

IamSerena · 19/12/2017 16:45

Thank you everyone for your replies...even to the person who called me a filthy animal Hmm
I think it's clear that I shouldn't wash it but I might double check with the hairdresser before I go Smile

Iam Merry christmas you "filthy animal"
Couldn't resist.

Fair point to responses, my hair would be terrible after 4 days but others may not be.

Almostfifty · 19/12/2017 17:04

I used to be a Saturday girl in a hairdressers and unless it's really greasy it'll be fine.

For the record, I used to wash ladies hair that hadn't been washed in a fortnight. The old 'shampoo and set' brigade. They wouldn't wash their hair if it was due to be dyed either, and it always took fine. The smell from their hair could be rather horrid though, most of them smoked, and it was the days of chip pans, so the combination was not good!

Hairdresser says to leave it as it is Smile

My hairdresser said come with 'dirty' hair as it's much better for the colour when it goes on. She said it's much harder with freshly washed hair x

Accountant222 · 19/12/2017 17:44

I used to wash my hair every other day, it was quite greasy. Then I grew it long and took to washing it twice a week and it's much better now. I seriously wouldn't wash my hair to go to the hairdressers

IamPickleRick · 19/12/2017 19:56

When I am pregnant I could go over a week, my hair just never seemed to get oily but I did wash it on day 7 just to freshen it up. Now I just do it whenever it feels like it needs it. It would cost me a fortune in shampoo to do it every day, not to mention the dry scalp!

1stWorldProblems · 20/12/2017 23:23

My hairdresser told me that you shouldn't wash it for a few days before you have it dyed as you need a layer of natural oils on your scalp to stop that being dyed too. It's not so much of problem if you're having it bleached but if you're having a colour added (mine's a shade of orange) then you don't want your scalp matching. Any dirt & grease will stripped from your hair follicles by any peroxide in the dye process.
