Everyone chipped in the same amount of money to get a buffet at work. You had the option to not participate.

One of the people who didn’t pay came up and helped himself to massive plate fulls at least 4 times.

Why did you not ask him for his money, or take the plate away from him. Cheeky feckers.

thatcunningstunt · 19/12/2017 15:40

CF, I had a (ex)friend who did this at my house once - we did a run to the shop for ice cream for a girls night in, she refused to chip in saying she wouldn't have any and then stuffed her face when we returned.
There's always one

magicstar1 · 19/12/2017 15:41

Nope! I had this on a night out...we paid an amount to get into a club, and a bottle of wine was included. One woman refused to pay, so we split the cost between the rest of us, and she came in. When the wine came over, she took a glass and poured some out - so I took it out of her hand and said "You didn't pay so you're not getting wine". She actually cried and said I was picking on her, but she got no sympathy from anyone. Cheeky fuckers need to be stopped!

PumpkinSquash · 19/12/2017 15:48

Maybe he's genuinely struggling? How would you know? A bit of kindness wouldn't go amiss.
So you all pay for a buffet and wave it under the noses of those who can't pay for any reason?
You sound like a right bunch of charmers.

Dozer · 19/12/2017 15:51

Are you 100% sure he didn’t pay?

Dozer · 19/12/2017 15:52

At my work dos those wishing to participate usually all go out. Food brought into the office is for everyone to share. Usually sweet stuff. We’ve never had a “buffet”!

What was in the buffet?

Hungry!

pumpkin cheeky fuckers love you then! It's that mentality that allow them to be CF without anybody puling them out on it.

MyKingdomForBrie · 19/12/2017 15:54

wave it under the noses of those who couldn’t pay oh bullshit. There’s no ‘waving under the noses’ that’s bloody ridiculous! You think OP and colleagues are having some kind of buffet of lobster and caviar at £50 a head?! There’s nothing smug or rude about eating. If I couldn’t afford something I wouldn’t take, simple.

Also I bet if he had said when asked ‘oh thanks but I can’t afford it’ he would have been told to join in anyway. Certainly would at my work place.

expatinscotland · 19/12/2017 15:57

'Maybe he's genuinely struggling? How would you know?'

Maybe some of those who participated are genuinely struggling? How does anyone know? He's a CF. How 'kind' is it of him to go up four times knowing everyone else had paid for it and he didn't?

PumpkinSquash · 19/12/2017 15:58

oh bullshit. There’s no ‘waving under the noses’ that’s bloody ridiculous! You think OP and colleagues are having some kind of buffet of lobster and caviar at £50 a head?!

What's what's in the buffet got to do with anything? Just seems a bit mean to me to have a buffet laid out in front of everyone, but only those who have enough money to contribute are allowed to touch it.
Surely you'd do it somewhere else? "You don't have any money so you can't have any." Season of goodwill in full swing, I see. Hmm

PumpkinSquash · 19/12/2017 16:00

Not everyone feels comfortable saying they're completely skint. Or if they do say so get made out they're exaggerating and must be able to afford to chip in something.

Aeroflotgirl · 19/12/2017 16:00

If he said I can't afford it, i am sure collegues would tell him it's ok, help yourself after paid people have had theirs. To help yourself without paying to 4 plates without paying, not just 1 or 2 greedy and rude.

MyKingdomForBrie · 19/12/2017 16:01

What’s in the buffet is relevant because it’s unlikely the man in question was priced out, and because I really don’t think having a buffet out for those who want to join in is unreasonable!

I think you’re making a point for the sake of it, this poor hard done by bloke took four plates of food that other people had paid for, probably meaning they missed out. It might have been the only treat they decided to pay for that Christmas.

ClaryFray · 19/12/2017 16:01

Should have confronted him at the time, IMO. Yes he's a CF but you said nothing as it was happening. So...

Surely it's more mean to help oneself to four massive platefuls? Even if I had contributed money towards a buffet I wouldn't take excessive amounts away. Seems a bit CF to take that much when you haven't paid, no matter how skint you might be.

Abijam · 19/12/2017 16:06

Maybe he contributed and you didn't know!!?

Dozer · 19/12/2017 16:08

What was in the buffet not relevant, of course, but am nosy and intreagued by others’ working lives!

Plus it’d make the mental picture of the plate piling possibly CF colleague clearer. A few sandwiches and crisps and sausage rolls, or hot n spicy spread? Was he quaffing diet coke or nabbing booze too?

toomuchofacoincidence · 19/12/2017 16:11

Even if he had paid that is greedy as fuck!

expatinscotland · 19/12/2017 16:14

I'm skint. The world is full of stuff right under my nose that I can't have because I can't afford it. Diddums. That's life! Doesn't entitle a person to take what they haven't paid for just because it's fucking Christmas, which is one day out of the year, or any time. Gah! People come in to work wearing Patek Philippe watches, clothes I'd like to have, eating lunches I'd like. Surely I should just take them because, well, I'm skint and they're waving it under my nose Hmm.

notmenotyou · 19/12/2017 16:16

It's more embarrassing to silently seethe about it, to discuss it amongst yourselves and yet never say anything to him!

KeepServingTheDrinks · 19/12/2017 16:17

I loves a CF thread.
