To not pay for tips after a spa session?

Hello ladies, I've never understood the tipping rule. We always tip in a restaurant at least 10%. My haircut is usually around 16 pounds and I round it up to 20. I've been to a spa recently and spent 90 pounds. And I didnt tip because 90 is a lot of money already and I was sure the lady who massaged me got a big chunk of that? She looked rather upset when I left without tipping. The treatment was ok but it was half an hour shorter than advertised. What's the rule for hairdresser, spa, etc?

Where do you live that you can get your haircut for £16!? I'm deeply envious of that! A simple trim costs about £40 here, and we are rural!
If the spa treatment is a one off I'd probably not tip, but if it was somewhere I'd be back I'd tip about £10.

Unless the spa therapist was self employed I very much doubt she got a chunk of the £90. Most employed therapists earn minimum wage.

If the treatment wasn't great and was cut short you should have been the one looking upset not her !

You was right not to tip.

In my opinion tips are for good services not just services. !

Sorry, I only tip in restaurants, bars or taxis. I have never understood why some people tip hair dressers, but it seems normal. To me it would mean that I might as well tip everyone I get a service from.

I don't tip in the spa. And I think I would make a complaint if my treatment was short.

I’m not against tipping and I tip wait staff, hairdressers, delivery drivers, and taxi drivers but it wouldn’t occur to me to tip in a spa!
But I think last time I went and had a treatment it was part of a pre-booked and paid for hen doo package and the time before that I’d had a massage at Clarins which was a present/voucher so I never tipped either oops.

In the hairdressers I always give the apprentice a few quid if they’ve washed my hair and make an attempt to politely chat.

If a beauty treatment is good, then yes, I tip. Beauty therapists generally make minimum wage.

I don't tip for spa services. I pay the figure asked of me.

I haven't given a tip since the minimum wage came in out of principal.

Why does a waiter get a tip but a retail worker etc doesn't?

It was different when they pretty much worked for tips only.

I get a 'DIY' cut now which averages about £15 here (S Wales). A standard cut and blow dry can be about £40 but if you find a salon that does a DIY it's much cheaper - basically a full shampoo/condition and wet cut but then they hand over their hairdryer for you to dry it yourself.

I don't tip at a spa, it's already quite expensive. But then I don't tip the hairdresser either! I only tip when I eat out, or round up a taxi.
