Anyone know loans for bad credit?

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 18/12/2017 22:42

Posting here for traffic. Please don't judge.
Has anyone been able to have a loan with awful credit? Tried a few already and all been declined. Asked my parents also.
Was in hospital so dc had to go into childcare a lot more so have no money.
Contacted health visitor to get a food bank voucher but not heard back.

I'm not posting this to ask for any help, I know MN regularly get people trying their luck - that's not me. That's why I'm embarrassingly writing this under my usual username.

The more loans I apply for the worse my rating gets apparently that's why I'm asking does anyone know of one.

Stop applying for loans and join your local credit union?

If it's just to get you through the next couple weeks speak to your childcare provider about spreading the costs they are usually understanding

Use your boots and Tesco clubcard points etc

Cut back as much as you can and don't stress about Christmas it's just one year

WishingOnABar · 18/12/2017 22:47

Are you already on any benefits? I think councils used to do something called a crisis loan for people on housing benefit or jobseekers but that may now be gone with universal credit

Blackteadrinker77 · 18/12/2017 22:50

Salvation army are great when things like this happen.

19lottie82 · 18/12/2017 23:03

there’s no such thing as bad credit loans, well not without eye watering interest rates, or bad people that will break your legs if you don’t pay. Both are obviously a bad idea.

I don’t mean to seem patronising using but a loan is the last thing you need right now.
Chase that voucher for the food bank again, or contact christians against poverty, they should be able to help you.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 18/12/2017 23:09

Thank you all, no salvation army in my area unfortunately. I will chase up my health visitor tomorrow!

Hiya, just wanted to say I am in the same position and it’s really tough, even more so at this time of year, I would love to join in and buy presents for loved ones but can’t even afford living costs at moment, I hope you have some luck tomorrow, you’re not alone, take care xx

TheHobbitMum · 18/12/2017 23:12

Local credit union :) My credit union offer loans to new savers on account opening so have a Google for your local branch?

19lottie82 · 18/12/2017 23:13

capuk.org

You don’t have to be religious to receive help. Good luck OP!

Crisis Loans haven't existed for a while, apparently that is the reason why more people are using foodbanks.

PersianCatLady · 18/12/2017 23:24

If you can't get hold of her, you could try any of these people for a referral -

  • Social Worker
  • CAB
  • Housing Association
  • Church Leader
  • Doctor
HCantThinkOfAUsername · 18/12/2017 23:45

Great thank you for the ideas. Sorry to hear others are going through the same :(
I didn't realise other people gave vouchers so I will get onto it tomorrow.

Got my voucher - local food bank which is open every Friday is closed this Fri! Just my bloody luck.
Will try the other suggestions :)

Do you have a salvation army near you? They do food banks you can self refer to. We had to do this, the people are lovely and totally non judgemental. Sorry things are so tough for you x

Sugarhunnyicedtea · 19/12/2017 18:16

Sorry, just seen above that there isn't a salvation army. Try your local church, all of our local ones would help

MyBrilliantDisguise · 19/12/2017 18:19

That seems bad, that the food bank is shut this Friday. Go back to your health visitor and ask her for more help. Or go online and find other local ones and ask your HV to refer you to one of them.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 19/12/2017 19:13

Thank you all I will keep pursuing it!

Not sure if you've got sorted but could you stop by citizens advice? Speak to someone there as I know they can help sometimes in situations like this

ReanimatedSGB · 21/12/2017 00:17

Have you got anything at all of value you could do without, at least temporarily? (eg Gold or silver jewellery, electrical goods, old-but-functional phones, musical instruments etc) If there is a Cash Converters or similar near you, that might get you a few quid so you can feed yourself and DC. If you do have any silver or gold, a nearby pawnbroker would also be a good option. Basically, pawning your stuff is a bit expensive as a way of borrowing money but the worst thing that can happen if you pawn things is that you lose them. You won't be racking up a debt that could haunt you for years.

Talkingfrog · 21/12/2017 00:35

Do you have any other food banks in the area that may be open tomorrow or Friday. One of the other people that have been suggested above may be able to help. You could also go into the food bank and speak to them as they may be able to direct you to someone that can issue the voucher straight away.
Do you have any store loyalty points you can use. Tesco club card points can be viewed online and you can reprint any you haven't redeemed.

Can you shop towards the end of the day and pick up some whoops bargains and freeze. Supermarket websites often have ideas for cheap meals.

Although you would not necessarily get anything now, joining a credit union is worth looking into for the future. Our local one does a Christmas loan. Nothing good to lose by asking them.

Hope you can sort something out. Wishing you a good Christmas.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 21/12/2017 10:15

Ah fab idea going late at night and getting cheap things. Will Deffo do that!

I know I shouldn’t really post this but it might help if you are in dire need. I have a bad credit rating. Absolutely terrible. I cannot get a loan as I am a student and “housewife”. My car has recently failed it’s MOT and will cost over £500+ to fix (that’s another issue entirely!)

Anyway, i cannot get a loan unless I have a guarantor which I do not want. However I have been able to have a credit card with a £1000 limit. The APR is high (24.9%) but still not as high as a loan.

I looked on moneysupermarket (I think) or type into google credit cards for bad credit score and it should tell you how likely or unlikely you are to be accepted.

It isn’t a long term solution though and make sure you can afford the monthly repayments as you do not want to get into worse debt.

All the best I know it is very hard and stressful moreso this time of year!

MyDcAreMarvel · 21/12/2017 10:27

Phone around the food banks, one will be open if it's far away then may deliver.

Bumdishcloths · 21/12/2017 10:56

If you already have bad credit, do not, for the love of god, pursue loans or credit cards. IT WILL MAKE THINGS MUCH WORSE.

pisacake · 21/12/2017 11:00

What makes your credit history bad? Defaults? CCJs?

haveacupoftea · 21/12/2017 11:28

If you have a car you can take out a logbook loan. But I think you would be better off selling anything you don't use on gumtree first of all.
