Aibu unreasonable to expect more than a 20% off next purchase?

Hi all

Just wondered if you could help me manage my expectations here.

Bought a coat for my daughter amount other things at a retail outlet and spent £650 there in total.

Got home and the coat still has the security tag on which I can’t remove as it looks like one of those ones with dye in to prevent shoplifting.

Called store and they did apologise and offer 20% off my next purchase.

For me to return to this store to get the tag removed (this is the nearest outlet of this brand to me) its a £25 round trip for petrol and tunnel charges.

Am I unreasonable in expecting a voucher for cover the cost of my out of pocket as I am not likely to buy anything else there any time in the near future, given how much I’ve just bought there last weekend.

I’d have to spend another £100 to redeem what I’ve incurred which I don’t want to do.

What do others think?

Cheers

I don't think it's at all unreasonable to expect them to make sure you're not out of pocket for their mistake but it's also not unreasonable of the online order department not to be able to help with a shop purchase.

Asking for the correct contact details is the best next step.

What shop is it, is there not an actual branch nearer by? Do you know anyone who works in a shop that could do it as a favour, are you on facebook, why not post your dilemma, you can usually find help for any problem in a local group (at least it seems you can in mine)

Why is someone blaming the OP? I've worked in retail and as a sales assistant it was my job to make sure that tags were taken off items, it's not the customers job to do so.

I would also try and take the coat into another store, have you told next customer service how much of a ballache it is for you to go back to the store?

bunbunny · 18/12/2017 17:59

make sure wherever you go won't trigger the security tag when you go in - would be really annoying to walk into a store and ruin your coat before getting the tag taken off!

MumW · 18/12/2017 18:02

Doesn't say much for their security system if the alarms weren't activated as you left. Xmas Confused

BouncyTigger85 · 18/12/2017 18:04

How would it ruin the coat walking into a shop? I thought they only leaked if you tampered with it. It clearly didn’t when the coat was taken out the store it was bought in (probably didn’t even beep, as I’ve had several things with tags left on leave the shop with no beeping).

Auspiciouspanda · 18/12/2017 18:07

The dye tags that I've worked with don't pop from leaving a store it's from trying to tamper with them.

If I was you OP I'd return to the store and refund your haul. Crap customer service to be out of pocket for an assistants mistake.

Go back, get your 20% voucher. Then return all the items you bought and repurchase using your 20% code

^^ this!

LookingForwardToChristmas · 18/12/2017 18:17

Can you ask them to reimburse you postage costs and send it to them, and get them to post it back without the tag?

thegoodnameshadgone · 18/12/2017 18:20

Mickiesminnie.

Top idea. Yes I shall do that.

The shop is Ralph Lauren.

It was a mixture of Christmas presents for my family.
