Why has no-one started up a sickbed delivery company yet?

Run down again with some kind of flu illness, feeling like death warmed up. The nearest supermarket is a while away but I don't drive and when I ventured to the corner shop yesterday their shelves were bare...

DH is working and doesn't finish 'til late this evening so no chance of him getting anything for me. At times like this, I often wish there was some kind of delivery service that brings you chicken soup, lemsip, honey, tissues, and all the other bits you need when you feel poorly.

We've got deliveroo and same day delivery for argos etc., and all these other delivery things, but nothing for ill people like me Sad AIBU to think that someone should hurry up and start this up already?!

I think what you are describing is a Mum or a best mate Wink

If it did exist, could you imagine the levels of staff sickness in such a company? Eugh.

Tissues, paracetamol and ibuprofen are basics you should have in so yabu.

twiney · 17/12/2017 17:16

Not unreasonable!

Could also include magazines and a soft blanket.

Potential names:
Fast Flued
Sick & Click
The Dispensary

TeddyIsaHe · 17/12/2017 17:18

I’ve got sinusitis and feel like death currently so YANBU, I want this to be a thing so badly.

Any mnetters in Norfolk who want to start it up this evening? Grin

ny20005 · 17/12/2017 17:18

Sick & click - love it !!!

AlwaysPondering · 17/12/2017 17:18

Love Sick & Click!

JammyGem · 17/12/2017 17:19

No family or friends within 100 miles I'm afraid Sad

I have paracetamol and ibuprofen but to be honest they don't make much of a difference. I don't know whether it's just because it's a hot drink but lemsip is the only medicine that seems to help yes I know it's paracetamol before anyone says

We did have tissues but this cold is so bad I got through them all...

Oooh yes, magazines and soft blankets also a good option!

Sick & Click! I love it!

some taxi/minicab services here offer that.
it's a bit pricey but worth it if you don't have another option.

Booboobooboo84 · 17/12/2017 17:23

Google grocery delivery. There are some that do local corner shop deliveries within the hour

ShiftyMcGifty · 17/12/2017 17:23

What, like a Sainsbury’s delivery that comes to your door?! Confused

B0033 · 17/12/2017 17:24

It's kind of like what a carer does, but as a one-off!

BornInSydneyy · 17/12/2017 17:24

Well I’ve heard of Postmates in the US so maybe it will eventually catch on here.

PurplePillowCase · 17/12/2017 17:25

What, like a Sainsbury’s delivery that comes to your door?

that needs planning in advance, they will not turn up an hour after you placed the order.

DearTeddyRobinson · 17/12/2017 17:26

Um the large supermarkets have home delivery, as does Amazon. Not instant but certainly next day. Is that what you mean?!

littleducks · 17/12/2017 17:26

Last time we all had a sickness bug and were really unwell I discovered amazon prime now. Groceries (limited selection compared to full website) delivered in two hours.

Akire · 17/12/2017 17:27

I know what you mean! Supermarkets only let you order 2 packs pain killers so the max is 4 days doses if on max level like lemon sip not much good if you in bed for 7-10days. Or if you and family are all ill and you get through two boxes in a day

JammyGem · 17/12/2017 17:30

Dammit, I thought you were on to something with Amazon Prime Now, but it's not available in my area Sad

Yeah, a supermarket delivery is great and all, but only if you're prepared in advance. Unfortunately I hadn't scheduled to be ill today so didn't organise a shop Grin

Ooh there's some company called beelivery who can deliver in 90 minutes. V V pricey though!

I work in a typical corner shop, and we do deliveries for quite a few elderly or housebound customers every week. I'm pretty sure they would extend this to ill regulars on an occasional basis, as they offered to do it for me when I was ill last winter (before I started working there) Grin. If you're a regular customer of your local shop it may be worth calling them to ask? We sell everything you listed on your OP, plus loads of extra stuff to cheer you up Grin

BalloonSlayer · 17/12/2017 17:40

Great idea

You could have different packages

The D&V package
Those cardboard sick buckets
Paracetamol
Disinfectant wipes
Water

The Heavy Cold Package
Tissues
Lemsip
Blanket
Soup

The ManFlu Package
As Heavy Cold package but with

Missingstreetlife · 17/12/2017 17:46

Etefy in London, online grocer, deliver in one hour.
My corner shop or local takeaway will put food in a taxi.
The taxi will take credit card and collect if I have clicked.

Hawkmoth · 17/12/2017 17:51

What a shame about Amazon prime now. We all had norovirus earlier this year and they brought wonderful things including dairy lea lunchables.

Ifyouseeapolarbear · 17/12/2017 18:00

Great idea- I could have really done with this service when I had hyperemesis.

Booboobooboo84 · 17/12/2017 18:57

Yeah beelivery that’s the one I was on about I obv now sainsburys don’t do same day 🤪 it’s pricey but it’s within the hour and they have all the staples you need on there

AcrossthePond55 · 17/12/2017 19:04

I remember as a child in the '60s when all pharmacies did this. They did delivery rounds twice a day (AM and PM) dropping off scripts and assorted medications. Of course, back then it was all small pharmacies & drug stores. Can't see the huge stores doing this.

We still have one 'Mum & Pop' drug store who will deliver, but their hours are very limited and they charge quite a bit for it.

DotDashBeep · 17/12/2017 19:10

I'm sure I remember reading about someone who was ill and ordered a pizza because the pizza place was opposite/next to a pharmacy and put in the notes bit on the order if they could also get her some cold remedies as she was v. unwell and they did!
