First lesson, driving instructor late

I'm starting lessons this morning. I'm just having second thoughts about the firm.

When I first contacted them it was because it was female drivers, however I've been put with a male??

When asking about prices they said 5 lessons for £100 which led me to query this as it was advertised 5 for £90

Lesson was supposed to be at 8am this morning, instructor messaged last night to change to 9:30

I know it's only 9:33 now, but he isn't here and no word since and I'm now feeling like I don't trust them, aibu to feel this way?

Not sure what to do now really,

Cancel!

strugglingthroughlife · 17/12/2017 09:37

I think you're right! He's not even here still! I've dropped my Ds off to a friend and he doesn't even want to be there and now I feel annoyed

5 for £100 seems very cheap (unless that is usual where you are?) £25-30 an hour, much more average here.

I'd be suspicious tbh. Very cheap and poor service from the start not a good sign!

strugglingthroughlife · 17/12/2017 09:38

Ok what do I message him? I'm rubbish with things like this

If you want a female driver you need to ask for this. Maybe from next lesson. If it’s on the website at £90 then you need to speak up and they should honour that price to you. They do not sound too professional changing the time at the last minute. Always use word of mouth recommendations where you can. If you’ve not had today’s lesson obviously do not pay. Or get a refund. I would re think it after Xmas.

healthyheart · 17/12/2017 09:39

Have you already paid?

streetlife70s · 17/12/2017 09:40

Have you already paid them any money? If not I’d turn them away and say you’ve changed your mind based on the above. I wouldn’t continue with such shoddy service.

hevonbu · 17/12/2017 09:40

Best is to speak with them (not just messaging) and ask for a refund or rebate if he was more than five minutes late for the lesson.

healthyheart · 17/12/2017 09:40

If he’s not here I’d be leaving it now and refusing the lesson. When he knocks on the door just say it’s too late this is not what we agreed. Get a new instructor.

strugglingthroughlife · 17/12/2017 09:41

I've not paid a penny thankfully! But I am on my way now to collect my son!

OP posts:
healthyheart · 17/12/2017 09:42

Good for you. I’d cancel any further lessons you may have already booked.

streetlife70s · 17/12/2017 09:42

If it specifically stated female drivers only then that’s what you should expect. Same with prices. You shouldn’t have to badger them to provide what was advertised. I agree with PP it’s cheap and probably for good reason. Get rid sharpish.

strugglingthroughlife · 17/12/2017 09:43

Yes most definitely! I'll find another firm after Christmas

Thank you all! I usually feel I'm such a clock watcher and maybe a few minutes late is ok, but this is unacceptable

OP posts:
MaidenMotherCrone · 17/12/2017 09:45

He might be stuck in traffic though.

LEMtheoriginal · 17/12/2017 09:47

I'd love to hear their hangover excuse. Although 8am on a Sunday morning seems quite early? batshit

strugglingthroughlife · 17/12/2017 09:48

@MaidenMotherCrone it's so quiet around here on a Sunday

OP posts:
MaidenMotherCrone · 17/12/2017 09:49

There could've been an accident.

ElsieMc · 17/12/2017 09:55

No, get rid op. I had quite a few instructors until I had the right one for me. It was a woman and she was horrible but I just wanted to pass my test first time and get away from her. It worked.

One instructor even made a suggestive remark to me and I asked him to let me out of the car or take me home. He said it was the first time that had happened. Really?

I wouldn't book a batch of lessons, you need to know if you feel confident.

ArchchancellorsHat · 17/12/2017 10:02

Or the man could have been out on the lash last night and is still in bed. They've not done what they promised, and OP isn't happy: she's not obliged to put up with poor service (which she's not even getting as he's not turned up!) nor is she obliged to make excuses for them.

AdalindSchade · 17/12/2017 10:04

Driving instructors are pretty good at judging the distance and driving times between clients. 9.30 on a Sunday is not peak traffic time. He is unprofessional.
You need to click with your driving instructor. I went through 3 because the first two were not working for me.

Slartybartfast · 17/12/2017 10:10

he must have been out partying on saturday night
before 9 is far too early on a sunday morning imo

AnnieAnoniMouse · 17/12/2017 10:12

I learnt to drive a million years ago when I was just 15. It’s so much easier when you’re immmortal & full of yourself 😊. I’d hate to be learning now, but if I was, I’d only book one lesson with a company to see if I liked them enough to book a block of lessons. Then I’d make sure I would be booked with the same instructor each time.

New Year, new start. Good luck!

Chapterandverse · 17/12/2017 10:13

Did you contact him and cancel or just leave your own house so that when he arrives there's no-one there?
