Would you let somebody you don't like babysit your child? For example a family member of your DH?

Just about anyone. Grin

No, not really, but I'm not that fussy. Family member of my husband sure as long as I trusted them to be an adequate babysitter.

KittyVonCatsington · 16/12/2017 20:01

‘Let’ babysit? Sounds like you think you are doing them a favour. It’s not exactly a fun job. But no. If I didn’t like them, I wouldn’t ask if they’d be kind enough to babysit. Why would you?

Prusik · 16/12/2017 20:02

I think it would depend - if it were a personality clash between you and the other person, then maybe, yes. It depends if they love the child, know the child and has their best interests at heart

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/12/2017 20:02

Depends on the age of both the children,
And how sensible the child was.
I mean if it was a mature 13 year old baby sitting a 3 year old who was in bed all night then that's fine. However not a 12 year old minding a 6 month old baby.

Ethylred · 16/12/2017 20:02

DH's relative? Of course.

You do realise, don't you, that maybe he doesn't like some of your relatives?

UnderTheDesk · 16/12/2017 20:04

It depends. I'm not mad about my SIL, but that's just because we have very different personalities and interests. But she is a good person, so I would have no problem with her babysitting.
Someone that I actively dislike, probably not, no.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/12/2017 20:05

Oh sorry I read that wrong.

Well you can't dislike them that much of you'd"willing to lethe them mind your child,
So if anything has gone on. The situation is laughing at its self.

Parker231 · 16/12/2017 20:06

We’ve used friends and professional baby sitting services. family less so as they aren’t local but when they visit both families have babysat.

Dexywexy · 16/12/2017 20:09

Only my mum and sister have looked after my son. He is a sensitive child and I am probably an over protective parent.

scrabbler3 · 16/12/2017 20:11

Their trustworthiness is what's important. I wasn't crazy about ex-SiL but she was a lovely auntie.

Hermagsjesty · 16/12/2017 20:12

It depends. I think it’s more about trust than like.

NapQueen · 16/12/2017 20:13

Depends why you dont like them
Because they have a bit of an attitude problem - yes.
Because they are a paedophile - no.

SheGotOffThePlane · 16/12/2017 20:14

I have stopped someone from my DH's family babysitting my DC overnight. I like them perfectly well, but they have some 'issues' which makes me not trust them fully with my child. I don't doubt they love them and want the best for them, but their past behaviours have left me uneasy.

Only my parents have babysat DD, but that is because DPs relatives have zero experience with babies and are quite frail so not a good combination with a boisterous toddler. Plus two of them have given DD sips of alcohol when I have left the room momentarily and let a dog knock her over and try to bite her after I'd asked for the dog t be shut out of the room when she is playing Angryso I wouldn't ever trust them with her alone. They also only seem to want to have her overnight which both she and I are not ready for, she is still breastfed so I have an excuse not to for the time being. When she is older it will be more difficult to say no. I feel my dislike of them is a factor, but a justifiable one in my case as they have gone against my wishes in my presence so I can't trust them.

wonkylegs · 16/12/2017 20:18

I'd let anybody I generally trust look after my kids but I wouldn't get someone I actively disliked, didn't trust or had issues with.
My mum wasn't allowed to babysit even before she got Alzheimer's as she was awful at paying attention and frankly the small child would be more sensible and trustworthy.
I was however happy to have the very sensible 15yo neighbour, and have used friends, neighbours and other relatives.

juliej00ls · 16/12/2017 20:19

It's about if I trust them...not like them.

formerbabe · 16/12/2017 20:22

Would you let somebody you don't like babysit your child?

Really depends on why you don't like them. I know people who I find annoying or wouldn't enjoy spending time with but I would trust them iyswim

lalalalyra · 16/12/2017 20:23

It depends entirely on why you don't like them surely?
