who is right about sneezing?

I’ve just had a proper barney with DH about sneezing.

DH has a cold, but he doesn’t put his hand over his face when he sneezes so you can see all of the shower of gack flying out of his nose when he does. It’s always been like this. It drives me mental.

I say that you should cover your face when you sneeze so you don’t blow snot and germs everywhere.
He says that if he does that, he just gets a hand covered in snot.

I think I’m right, and that there’s no point in him saying not to come close as he doesn’t want me to catch his cold when he’s spraying it everywhere anyway.
He thinks he’s right, but says if he can get a tissue in time he’ll use use that.

Am I unreasonable to ask him to cover his face when he sneezes then wipe his sodding hand, rather than spray snot everywhere, or is he right that I’m just being precious?

YANBU, he's being revolting.
If he was outside and not near anyone else he can spray snot as much as he likes, but when indoors or close to others it's the done thing to cover your mouth. He should either sneeze into his hands then go and wash them, sneeze into the crook of his elbow (I think that was an NHS recommended way but not 100% sure), or into a tissue (he can have one in a pocket or tucked into his cuff ready can't he).

Has he put 2 and 2 together that if he ends up with a handful of snot then without the hand he's spraying that same amount of snot all over the room?! Ask him would he be happy to wipe the snot off all over the sofa and dining table etc?

Gross.

If he won't use tissues, spray disinfectant at him every time he doesn't cover his mouth to sneeze or cough.

That's gross. I hate it when people cough and sneeze without covering their mouth/nose. Especially on buses or trains where you're a captive audience and usually can't escape. The other day,a man sitting behind me on the bus coughed so hard without covering his mouth,I felt the hair on the back of my head move. I turned round and said 'Please don't do that,it's disgusting'. His response? 'What? I didn't do nufink'.

Yuck, neither of you are right. You should sneeze in to you bended arm/elbow. This avoids spreading your germs directly in to the air or on to hands that could contaminate surfaces.

It's standard NHS advice OP to cover your sneezes. They may only be colds to him, but to an immunocompromised person they can land you in hospital or god forbid the morgue. Quick google search showed this poster.
