To be shocked that stately homes used to weigh guests and record it in a visitors book?

Found this out yesterday. It was seen as a bit of fun. I can not think of anything more horrific (well of course I can, but you get my meaning)

I understand Magdalen College, Oxford still has a custom of weighing the fellows and recording their weights in the SCR weights book. It's supposed to be a point of honour to the college chef that they should get heavier over the course of their tenure....

Don't airlines still coyly require their staff to have their 'weight in proportion to their height' for 'safety reasons'?

There's been a few recent stories about female cabin staff working for foreign airlines being told to lose weight. Googling suggests air India, air Pakistan and aeroflot have been guilty of this.

In a nod to being a old fart (only just 50 FFS !) I was on a course recently - the oldest there - and everyone else only knew their weight in Kg. It was a weird moment - they honestly didn't know what stone were. It was like being stuck with some Americans

Americans would be the last people to state their weight in Kilos!
