AIBU to factory reset my phone, go into vodaphone hand them the phone and tell them to stick there contract up there arse!

They have been taking well over £100 from my account now for the past 6 months, everytime I phone them up they say I can't get a refund!

Well... how much is your phone bill?

Adrianflank · 14/12/2017 09:43

My phone bill is £50, I used to have 2 contracts, but back in June my 24 month contract ended so I only had 1 bill, but they have still be charging me for 2 contracts! Told me me today I won't get a refund from June!

OP posts:
peachgreen · 14/12/2017 09:44

Did you cancel your other contract?

FrostyThirties0 · 14/12/2017 09:46

The 24 months is a minimum term, you have to have it at least that long. You still continue to pay it unless you give notice that you want to end the contract. Did you do this?

Adrianflank · 14/12/2017 09:51

No I didn't, I signed a 24 month contract, the 24 months ended and they still carried on charging me for a contract I wasn't using

OP posts:
MaidenMotherCrone · 14/12/2017 09:53

If the contract was up but you didn't cancel with them they were still providing the service, it was up to you to tell them you no longer wanted it.

SparklyMagpie · 14/12/2017 09:53

I'm sorry and as much as I hate bastard Vodafone (and have since moved providers) you still need to cancel your contract at the end of the contract period, otherwise you continue to be charged for that contract plan

Sorry OP,you should have cancelled it

FrostyThirties0 · 14/12/2017 09:57

It’s not a 24 month contract. It’s a 24 month minimum term contract.

Adrianflank · 14/12/2017 09:57

Ok fair enough I'm in the wrong, but it's bullshit, What happend was my phone on my first contract got damaged behind repair, only had 6 months left on it, opened up a 2nd contract to get a new phone, and just presumed because I signed a 24 month contract it would end after the 6 months left on it!

OP posts:
Waitingonasmile · 14/12/2017 10:02

Very frustrating but you are absolutely in the wrong, sadly! It's just a rolling contract you must cancel.

TheEmmaDilemma · 14/12/2017 10:04

Yup. Lesson learnt the hard way.

Adrianflank · 14/12/2017 10:05

Ok, I will happily admit I am wrong, I better phone them back up and redo my direct debit, in the heat of the moment after having an argument with them this morning I cancelled it

OP posts:
stickytoffeevodka · 14/12/2017 10:07

Ouch, lesson learned the hard way.

Yes, 24 months is the minimum term - it's your responsibility to ring them 23 months in and give them a months notice to cancel. So you need to cancel the first contract now, and you'll then have one/two final payments depending on your billing date.

DopeyDazy · 14/12/2017 10:13

presumption is the mother of all fuckups

Andrewofgg · 14/12/2017 10:50

DopeyDazy Grin and I will use that!

Unhomme · 14/12/2017 11:09

It's 'Assumption is the mother of all fuckups'

cherryontopp · 14/12/2017 12:19

Its a shame that vodafone werent in the wrong on this occasion as i came here to have a moan about them!

Nearly 5 month it took them to change the direct debit date on my contract (from 19th to 1st of every month).

My bill never comes less than £50 even though my contract said £42 and i have unlimited texts and data and phone calls.

Hate them. September im out so glad to read this so i know to ring to get out of it!

Andrewofgg · 14/12/2017 21:01

It's a bit sexist, though, why can't Assumption be the Father of all Fuckups which would be alliterative too?

Ktay · 14/12/2017 21:07

Same here @cherryontopp, absolutely hate Vodafone

FoxyRoxy · 14/12/2017 21:12

No communications supplier will cut off your contract once you get to the end of it or there would be a lot of angry people! If it was at the end of 24 months you should have cancelled it if you didn't want it anymore? They should have informed you to do this when you started the new contract but also you should have noticed the first month you paid twice.

DoublyTroubly · 14/12/2017 21:17

When was the first time you phoned them up to ask about getting the double payment stopped? They really should have told you then that you needed to give one months notice and cancel the first contract. I would tell them that you want that to be the official date you gave notice and they should adjust your payments retrospectively

19lottie82 · 14/12/2017 21:23

Your contract didn’t end, the minimum term did! Do you really think they go about just cutting peoples phone lines off at the end of 24 months?
Minimum term contracts are the norm for loads of things, gym memberships, Boiler cover, satellite TV.

YABU, but hopefully you’ve learnt a lesson, even if it’s been an expensive one!

19lottie82 · 14/12/2017 21:25

“I better phone them back up and redo my direct debit, in the heat of the moment after having an argument with them this morning I cancelled it“

Wow, yes, you had! Only thing you would achieve through that would be a trashed credit rating and debt collectors at your door! Not clever at all!

I don’t mean to be rude OP but you don’t seem very financially clued up at all! Never ever just cancel a DD !

schmoozypoo · 14/12/2017 21:26

Have had nothing but trouble with Vodafone, they overcharged me and never gave me my refund. But in this case it seems they were in the right. It sucks though OP especially when it us such a lot if money

Alloftheboys · 14/12/2017 21:33

How were they to know you wanted to cancel the first one when the minimum contract ended?

As a former colleague would say "my balls are hairy not crystal"
