I knocked my nail off a few days ago and it's suddenly gone funny today Sad

Please beware, picture of gross toe

I've been walking lopsided at work and it's hurting my back as well ( Grin must be getting old) and hurts like buggery

I have attached a picture of my toe

Please can someone suggest ways I can make this less painful?

I have a doctors appointment for Monday the 18th, I can't cope with that for five more days!! Confused

That looks so sore Thanks

Definitely worth missing work - infections can spread quickly.

You can send them the pic if they need to see proof!

flumpybear · 14/12/2017 08:08

Sorry but you can't go to a walk in centre ... you need a hop in centre GrinWink

In all seriousness tho it does look like you need medical attention so get yourself along to one ASAP

FeralBeryl · 14/12/2017 15:31

How are you Most ? Did you get sorted?

tornandhurt · 14/12/2017 15:48

Magnesium Sulphate past (you can buy it over the counter) and a little bit of dressing - that should encourage it to pop itself.....give that a couple of days to work. If its too far gone though probably antibiotics.

Nicketynac · 14/12/2017 16:28

I would soak it in hot salty water (as hot as you can bear) for as long as possible and then sort of stretch the skin away from the nail. Hopefully it will pop by itself, and you can put your foot back in the water and the pus comes out slowly. You might have to have it in and out of the water a few times before it pops though.
I used to get frequent ingrown toenails and this was my fail safe technique. The pus may reaccumulate (in which case repeat the hot water thing) but you only need antibiotics if the redness and swelling spread, or if you have a fever etc.

Nicketynac · 14/12/2017 16:30

Actually, just looked at the picture again - the redness is quite far up your toe so maybe you need antibiotics already. Hmm, second guessing my earlier advice.

mostlikelyanunpopularviewpoint · 14/12/2017 16:35

I went to a walk in centre and they had a look. They peeled back part of my toenail and half come off. Disgusting I know Grin

They gave me an antiseptic paste

I can't have antibiotics as it apparently can react with another medication I have to be on

They also said the redness looks partly to be from where I'm walking funny and the infection should be held back with the paste

They also supplied some medical wash thing

If it doesn't sort out, I'd then have to go back and look at alternatives to antibiotics

Thank you for all the advice

It still hurts like hell though but survived a five hour shift on my feet!

OK a mostly good update. Glad you got it checked.

If your infection isn't too bed. get some oregano herb. make a tea. add sweetener if needed.
Oregano has Antibiotic properties. And you would know if you can eat it or not.
Make 3 teas a day [half teaspoon of dry. steep hot water] for a week.

Fingers x'ed for you 💐

*No I don't sell it. Just think it's good stuff

I had something like that on my finger once. It was ridiculously painful.

I bit the bullet, pressed on my nail as hard as I coud (this was agony) and it burst. An impressive amount of green stuff came out and the relief was instant.

Short term pain, long term gain. Plus, it was ace when it burst :)
