AIBU to be unable to find a fitbit/pedometer for a child for running

My daughter loves to run and would like to record the amount she runs everyday but I cant find anything suitable. All the clip on pedometers seem to be for walking only and everything on the wrist is far too big as she is a tiny 7 year old. Ideally not too expensive so she can wear it all day every day and not babyish like the garmin kids ones. Any ideas? Thank you.

How about this one? - it says it goes as small as 5.4 inches (13.7 cm)

LittleOwl153 · 13/12/2017 22:37

Mi band you can get pendant holders and clip on things, and even friendship band style stamps that you knot on eBay. App splits walking steps from running but they all count in total -copes alright with school pe, Junior park run etc. Not for serious runner I guess!

Littleowl - Mi band looks good but looks big as the spec says the sensor is 36mm deep. Do you have a young child wearing it? Would it reduce to 13cm circ which is what my daughters watch is at the moment and that is too loose on the smallest fastening on a decathlon kids watch? Presumably they don't work properly if too loose? Thanks for your help.

I’ve bedn looking for fitness watches for my dds. They have tiny wrists too and everything looks too big. The ones that come up on amazon when you search for children’s fitbits aren’t really for children when you read the sizes. I think a clip on might be your best bet.

lovehatehelp · 14/12/2017 07:34

Thanks. Clip on would be fine but aside from the fitbit zip they appear to be for walking only. I was hoping something like the ones in Decathlon or similar price £13-16 would be ok but they say only for walking. Does anyone have a clip one that covers running that they could recommend?

How about a misfit? They have a clip or a strap and I used to wear mine around an ankle and it was accurate so less obvious when she is at school?

You have to have a phone to see exact steps but you can set a target and it lights up with the proportion you have done

I got my dc Smart Watch, Smart Pedometer Bracelet and Sleep Monitor, Bluetooth 4.0 Activity Tracker, IP67 ... [[https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MRKL0NZ?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf&tag=mumsnetforum-21 these]] wristband Fitbit copies at the start of the school summer holidays. They seem to work ok, and the wristbands just about go small enough. No GPS, but we’re only really interested in steps.

BikeRunSki · 14/12/2017 07:52

Those I linked do for parkrun, seem ok for running. I imagine that “walking only” ones don’t have dampening in to deal with the shocks and jerks of running.

NearlyEaster · 14/12/2017 07:53

My very slim 11 yo has a fit bit that fits well. And is fine for running.

Tainbri · 14/12/2017 08:10

My son is a garmin vivofit which price wise isn't as much as many and it's also waterproof unlike the fitbits but word of warning, the strap is total rubbish and comes undone and he lost the first one and then I found it is a common issue so I bought a replacement strap on Amazon which is much better.

Wallywobbles · 14/12/2017 08:18

Misfits can also be used on a necklace.

NewtsSuitcase · 14/12/2017 08:42

Are all of the vivofits compatible with the same app or are they all different? DS2 (10) would love the captain america styling but DS1 would definitely want something a little slicker at 13. Having said that I know they'd like to compete with each other

Blackteadrinker77 · 14/12/2017 08:47

I have the charge hr but the best running data I get is from the free endomondo app.

NewtsSuitcase · 14/12/2017 09:09

Hmm, this has thrown me now. I thought I was done but I'm twitching..

RhiWrites · 14/12/2017 14:47

OP, you say fitbits are too big. Did you know you can replace the bracelet? I did this because I didn’t like the plastic band it came with. The metal bracelets can be made whatever size you like. Can post a link if you want.

lovehatehelp · 14/12/2017 15:41

Rhi - No I didn't know that, a link would be great thanks.

My daughters wrist measures about 13cm at its narrowest. This is it on her - which works perfectly well.

Sorry, OP, only just saw this.

Here’s the one I have: amzn.to/2AXn1iD

I like it for the sparkle. But there are other styles. You can take out as many links as you need.

wonkylegs · 16/12/2017 20:14

My friend has this one for her small 8yo daughter https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B076HK97YH/ref=mpssa115?ie=UTF8&qid=1513455115&sr=8-5&pi=ACSX2366SY340QL65&keywords=fitness+trackers&dpPl=1&dpID=41kwFUHz%2B6L&ref=plSrch
As she'd recommended it to me for 9yo DS, although we've decided to go for something else completely different instead

greedycushionhoarder · 16/12/2017 22:25

Take a look at the jawbone up move, it's small and can be worn as a watch or a clip on, it's cheap but easy to use and the app is really good, both my daughter's have one.

WishingOnABar · 16/12/2017 23:22

I would echo previous posters about the mi band, my ds is 8 and wears his all day, the strap is adjustable and goes quite tight. I have had mine for nearly 2 years, it records steps very reliably and also tracks distance, heart rate and sleep. Bargain at around 20 quid
