I keep work and family separate when possible.

Low income male factory worker, main earner in the house. Wife works around my shifts. Oldest son (5) recently diagnosed on the Autism spectrum.

Yesterday working 14-2200 I slipped inside work, not on a wet floor but it's very slippy in the foot ware we are provided with. I went straight on my back and almost in tears. It's always been noted how slippy the floor can get and the footwear grip is rubbish. I finished my shift, but have been on agony ever since it happened. Not much better this morning. I don't really want to put a sicknote in because money is tight this time of year.

Am I unreasonable to as work to pay me the rest of this week, or especially today as I'm not going in on doctors advice to rest. Or to ask to use my holiday entitlement whilst I'm off of do I start an accident claim?

I have a good honest record with timekeeping and attitude etc, also I'm in the works union too. I just don't want to create a shit storm

I came on to say yes YABU, I hate our claim culture.
But you should definitely be being paid for today. It’s not fair for you to loose money for not being there today. Does your work give sick pay? I thought they had to but maybe I’ve very out of touch with what your rights are! Can you contact your union and ask for advice?

@NEWMUM exactly the reason I made the post. I don't want to start that procedur, I've never done it before and no intention, I've worked since I was 16 (4 years at current employer) I just don't want to go stay off if they won't pay me. I only get basic national minimum sick pay. I may have asked if I was unreasonable to ask for full pay or use my holiday allowance for the rest of this week

A qualified solicitor will be able to advise you.

Did your fall get entered in the accident book?

LIZS · 13/12/2017 11:57

Have you got a doctors certificate or are you self-certifying? Is there any sick allowance on full pay? Yes it should have been, or be, put in the accident book. Not sure if it would be a claim if you are already aware of the slippery floor/footwear.

Damonlufc88 · 13/12/2017 12:06

Yeah it got taken in the accident book. The floor shouldn't be slippy though maybe I was been to hasty but the shoe tread is poor even my department manager said that and I was with a colleague when it happened. I've asked my department manager any chance I can be paid the rest of the week, he will raise it with the shift manager. Also my intention that I do not intend to take it further just worried financially this time of year.
