My DS 7months is a stunner. Small ,flat to his head ears, button nose, huge almond-shaped blue eyes, ...honestly, stick a ribbon in his hair and he'll be the cutest little girl. My father has delicate elfin features and so does DP despite being big, chunky guys so I fully expected him to be a looker. Anyway, My mum and dad both have brown-nearly black hair and eyes, as do all of my siblings. DP has dark hair and eyes with a dark dad and blondish mother. My little dude presents us with a shock of red hair. His skins a bit whiter than ours too. I'm delighted, don't get me wrong even our very diluted Mediterranean genes have produced generations of brunette, olivey kids and something different is very welcome. WTF though! How did that happen ? Anyone get surprise looking babies?

I'm mixed race black/white/other so have dark brown eyes and almost black hair, DH has hazel eyes. DD1 (4) has come out slightly tanned, with dirty blonde/brown hair and massive blue-grey eyes. Not impossible as my Dad was blonde and blue-eyed but brown is the dominant gene. DD2 (3mo) currently has blue-grey eyes like most babies, but surely I won't end up with two blue-eyed kids!

Ginnotginger · 12/12/2017 19:48

My dgs2 has red hair and it was a complete surprise. His dad is Scottish and has quite a few redhead's in his family but he, his brother and both parents are brunet/tes. On our side of the family my dd is a brunette and you have to go back to my dm's grandad and my df's great grandad to find the redheads. The rest of the family are mostly brunet/te or mouse brown. That ginger gene has been lurking for a while Smile

KindergartenKop · 12/12/2017 19:50

My kids are mixed race. DS1 looks a lot like DH but with paler skin, but darker skin than mine. DS2 pops out and is pretty much my doppelganger, apart from the willy.

Everyone has rose tinted specs when it comes to their dc though, everyone thinks their kids are the most gorgeous

Except there are people here who say that didn't happen to them. I know I was incapable of seeing my dd as anything other than perfect.

katseyes7 · 12/12/2017 20:07

My parents were both dark, my dad actually had black hair. l was born with bright ginger hair, it was white blonde when l was young, then turned true copper in my teens.
l found out that my mam's dad was a redhead and so was her brother, but his 3 kids were all dark haired. l'm the only redhead out of all 8 grandchildren.
And my dad's mam was a redhead, but none of the kids inherited it. l didn't like mine when l was a teenager, but now l'm quite sad it's darkened and faded with age.

GeekyBlinders · 12/12/2017 20:12

I have grey eyes, DP has hazel-green eyes and DS has dark brown eyes. When I did genetics at school, I'm sure I was taught that was impossible! But he's definitely DP's as I haven't slept with anyone else since we met, and he's also definitely not a changeling/mix up at the maternity was because he and I both have a small chromosome deletion.

Ithastobeheinz · 12/12/2017 20:14

i have dark brown hair almost black and dark brown eyes.
Dp has brown hair and green eyes.
Ds1 has red hair and blue eyes
Ds2 has brown hair like his dad and light brown eyes almost a gold colour.
Ds3 has red hair and dark brown eyes.
Ds4 has mousy brown hair and blue eyes.
Dd has red hair with blue eyes.

mrwalkensir · 12/12/2017 20:15

everyone both sides of the family tan well , then we produce a daughter who pretty much bleaches in the sun - rogue lurking genes! And she's very beautiful

Madonnasmum · 12/12/2017 20:25

I look more greek than a greek parson, and when out with my blonde haired blue eyed son, get a few odd looks! He's the double of his dad so I'm convinced people think I'm the nanny.

MsJudgemental · 12/12/2017 20:48

Genes are fascinating! Not very dramatic, but...Me: olive skin, thick, dark, wavy hair, large brown eyes. DH: medium skin which tans easily, thin, straight, mousy hair which was white-blonde as a child, small, hazel-green eyes. DS: olive skin, born with thick, dark, straight hair which went golden brown for a while but is now nearly black, large, hazel-green eyes. I can do the ‘live long and prosper’ sign but cannot curl my tongue, DH cannot do the ‘live long and prosper’ sign but can curl his tongue. DS can do both. His strange, split eyebrow is his own!

sapiosexual your son is indeed gorgeous!

NoHuns - you survived deletion! It didn't read like lighthearted no matter what the Op might claim, which is why I put what I did which really was not deletion worthy Hmm.

Kraggle - you DD's hair is a beautiful colour.

Bettercallsaul1 · 13/12/2017 18:33

Gorgeous baby, Sapio! Smile

ConciseandNice · 13/12/2017 18:39

I have black hair, very pale skin. My husband is Pakistani. We’ve still managed to produce 5 light brown or blonde children and three sets of blue eyes!

FloydWasACat · 13/12/2017 18:40

I have dark brown hair, husband is bald and grey blond and we managed to make this beauty. Her brother is a mixture of blonds but both have crystal blue eyes. Mine are hazel, DH's are grey/brown. Go figure! However, this little red-haired 'cherub' has started telling everyone to "fuck off" today thanks to some school kids at the bus stop this morning (yay). Lovely, when in M&S Food and a nice lady stops to comment on her hair colour and gets that response Blush

As a red head from non red head background I can confirm we do occasionally pop up as a surprise! My dad had dark skin, brown eyes, black hair. Mum fair but not red head. Then out I popped! Enjoy every moment with him but watch his temper 😘

BlackPrism · 01/05/2019 10:05

My dads so dark he looks Middle Eastern - he got platinum hair blue eyed me and green eyed, freckled auburn sister 😂

Applesbananaspears · 01/05/2019 10:18

My sister and her husband are both extremely dark, very love skinned, dark eyes, almost black hair. My niece is white blond, blue eyes and so pale she is seethrough. You would think she was adopted if she didn’t have the exact same face as her father

Ihatehashtags · 01/05/2019 16:07

Probably a throw back from somewhere and it’s a combination of both genes. I’m laughing at all the looks obsessed parents on here who think their kids are amazing 😂

washinglions · 01/05/2019 16:49

That is a primaeval survival instinct - you are programmed to think like that so you protect and nurture your own offspring.

tor8181 · 01/05/2019 18:51

im jet black, dad dark brown both brown eyes

2 boys one white blonde and one light blonde both got light blue eyes

my partner is adopted so we dont know his side

Amfeelingfline · 01/05/2019 19:23

Daughter is spitting image of me (same hair/ eye colour/ body shape) but has dad’s pale skin and freckles (he was ginger now brownish hair) son is spitting image of dad but has my olive skin (and my mole on his forehead Confused)...

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 01/05/2019 19:25

There's a lot of ginge tinge in my family (Irish heritage on one side, Scottish on the other) DS was born with a mop of almost black hair, DHs face (I've had comments after peering into the pram, like oh wow it's like you're pushing around Mr Zippy in miniature) , but he has my pale skin and blue eyes. DH and I were both blonde as children, he now has light brown hair and mine is pretty red , so no idea where the black hair comes from!

isseywithcats · 01/05/2019 19:28

im one of five and the only one with red hair, i have eight grandchildren and only one grandaughter who has red hair like mine, in my case it came from my scottish grandmother but she was the only one of five children who had yep red hair, seems in our family the redheads are the rare ones
