Babysitter Here - Sleeping

If you had a babysitter until 1 or 2am, would you expect / be happy for them to kip on the sofa? I'd never have thought to do it - seemed a bit CF, but my mum seemed to think I ought to, and said she'd have been happy for a babysitter to do it if they were there past 11pm or so

(Context - A-Level student babysitting on Fridays / Saturdays)

I think it's fine. You would normally be asleep at that time when you're at home?

arethereanyleftatall · 11/12/2017 19:35

Yes, since we as parents would be asleep, it's fine for the babysitter to be

If the children are asleep then it's fine. Although I never felt comfortable enough to when I was babysitting.

AdalindSchade · 11/12/2017 19:37

Of course. I'd be mortified if they stayed awake!

WheresTheEvidence · 11/12/2017 19:37

As a nanny/babysitter I must admit I do drop off sometimes. But it's never proper sleep and I try to stay awake as long as possible I usually jump up as soon as i hear the door Grin

SilverdaleGlen · 11/12/2017 19:37

How old are the kids?

6 months and above and perfectly able to hear and react then a doze on the sofa really would not bother me as a parent.

PurplePillowCase · 11/12/2017 19:39

absolutely fine

excitedforxmas17 · 11/12/2017 19:41

Definitely fine and I would (and do) encourage it!

I'm asleep by 10/11pm, why on earth do I need the babysitter to be awake?

slimyslitheryslug · 11/12/2017 19:41

Of course. I always call when we're in the taxi home partly so I can wake the babysitter up and not surprise her.

Cancerisacunt · 11/12/2017 19:41

Wouldn’t bother me in the slightest.

JustDanceAddict · 11/12/2017 19:42

YEs of course. You’d be asleep if you were at home then. I used to nod off on sofa when babysitting!!

Salvadore · 11/12/2017 19:43

I leave a blanket out for our babysitter!

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2017 19:57

It wouldn't bother me if my babysitter did it but I wouldn't dare to do it if I was babysitting. I know how weird that sounds.

Notevilstepmother · 11/12/2017 19:58

Some of the families I babysat for when I was that age would let me sleep over in the spare room if they were going to be late. I don’t see a problem with a babysitter snoozing on the sofa, they are there is there is a problem. Same as parents being asleep.

trilbydoll · 11/12/2017 19:58

I used to fall asleep babysitting, usually I woke up when the door opened bit a couple of times I had to be shaken awake Blush Grin

Bambamber · 11/12/2017 19:58

Sounds fine to me, as long as you have no issues waking up sharpish if needed

TotemIcePole · 11/12/2017 20:00

Yes, definately, or spare room unless they are driving home?

Crumbs1 · 11/12/2017 20:01

Long time ago I used to sleep over at our neighbours when I was babysitting. I went to bed around 10pm as I had school the next day.

roomsonfire · 11/12/2017 20:06

I have napped when babysitting as a teen. 2-3am my 'boss' would come back having worked in a bar. Not her fault to work so late and she was great about me sleeping and left a blanket out for me. I only lived down the road so it wasn't such a big deal to go home so late either.

Alpacaandgo · 11/12/2017 20:06

I wouldn't have a problem with it.

user1497357411 · 11/12/2017 20:07

You wouldn't stay awake untill then surely? Why should she? Because you are paying for her time? You sound tight and petty.

LondonStill83 · 11/12/2017 20:09

User- did you even read the op?!

Loonoonow · 11/12/2017 20:15

It's perfectly ok. Overnight carers/babysitters/live-in nannies/parents aren't expected to stay awake all night are they? As long as you can still hear the children if they need you I can't see it would be a problem. If you are really concerned perhaps you should check with the parents.

InsomniacAnonymous · 11/12/2017 20:17

User is obviously very hard of thinking.
