Aibu to ask how the fluff does anyone stick to plan?!

I've been doing it since January of last year and I'm a stone heavier than when I started!!!

In the nicest way it’s clearly not the diet for you.

Look into something else instead of potentially getting annoyed at not being able to progress.

Sirzy · 10/12/2017 17:23

As with any other diet you have to be in the right frame of mind to stick to it and be willing to make long term changes

If your not in the right place then you may as well be throwing £5 down the drain each week

Pinkbutton85 · 10/12/2017 17:24

I start of so well. My first week I did the full week and lost 8lb! Then it goes to pot..

It's definitely me and not the diet, I have the worst willpower and motivation Sad

I have 2 friends in work who do slimming world. They both lost 2 stone and then put it on again and are now trying to lose it again. It’s a mugs game. Exercise and healthy eating as a way of life are the only way to go.
I will add though that I think there is a case for slimming world etc when people have huge amounts of weight to lose- like 5 stone plus.

TidyDancer · 10/12/2017 17:26

I don't think it's a very healthy 'diet' anyway tbh. People can do it in a healthy way but that's personal discipline and planning.

Happyhappyveggie · 10/12/2017 17:30

I agree @TidyDancer - my work colleagues are always eating loads of fat free sugary yoghurts and the slimming world brand chocolate bars. And loads of pasta. I know it’s the slimming world cliche but I don’t think it’s healthy at all- fat free has been proven to be all wrong. People need healthy fats like nuts and avocados and they are all ‘syns’ on SW. Its all bollocks

PinkHeart5914 · 10/12/2017 17:32

It’s clearly not the right programme for you. Admittedly I don’t know much about slimming world but I’ve friends that lost all baby weight by doing slimming world and they haven’t put it back on.

You say you have the worst willpower, but for any diet or even just making small healthy changes in your life you will need willpower. Fact is losing weight is rarely easy.

specialsubject · 10/12/2017 17:34

They will love you , permanent client. There's no incentive for you to succeed with them.

Assuming no metabolic problem - look at lifestyle. Eat food, not smoothies, low fat food, diet food, cereal bars and all the other crap.

BornInSydneyy · 10/12/2017 17:37

I’ve lost close to 3 and half stone now. If you’re not motivated or can’t eat better for more than a week then the harsh truth is that you won’t lose weight.

So either be happy at the weight you are or have more decipline.

WatchingFromTheWings · 10/12/2017 17:46

I follow it and have lost just over 3 stone in 19 months. I exercise too. I rarely have a week where I'm 100% on plan....I slip up at least once a week!

WetPaint4 · 10/12/2017 18:06

It is not going to work until you're ready.

allthecheese · 10/12/2017 18:29

It's not you. We are all individuals so what may work for someone won't work for someone else. You just need to find your 'thing'. Don't be mean to yourself just because one approach out of thousands doesn't work for you.

TrinitySquirrel · 10/12/2017 18:34

Keto.

Examples -

Mushroom omlette for breakfast. Tuna salad at lunch.
Chicken and veg for dinner.

Bacon and eggs for breakfast.
Stuffed chicken breast and spinach for lunch.
Steak and sweet potato fries for dinner.

Fullfat yogurt and berries for breakfast.
Ham and frittata for lunch.
Chicken fajhitas for dinner.

And so on...

iBiscuit · 10/12/2017 18:37

Exercise and healthy eating as a way of life are the only way to go.

Which is exactly what Slimming World is about, if you're doing it properly.

Yes there are ready meals (which have the recipes on the packet so you can make the dishes yourself if you so wish), and there are the Mugshots and the Muller Lights, but the main focus is on "speed" foods (mainly vegetables and fruit). You're supposed to fill your plate with at least one third speed, and only then add the "free" stuff (lean meat, seafood, eggs, pasta, potatoes).

There are many members of my SW group who had never cooked until they joined, and are now avid cooks. And many who never exercised, but now do. You get awards for meeting "Body Magic" targets (eg walking, dancing or cycling 20 minutes a few times a week for four weeks to start with - babysteps maybe but achievable).

You can do all of this without paying £5 a week of course, but the formula works for some people.

Some groups are definitely better than others though, and you'll click better with some than others. Have you tried going to another session with another leader and a different set of members?

Toughtips · 10/12/2017 18:37

Slimming world only works cos people create a calorie deficit. That's just how fat loss works. Create a deficit and it'll come off. Download mfp for free. Give them some info, they'll create the defecit then you log.

Migraleve · 10/12/2017 18:43

Exercise and healthy eating as a way of life are the only way to go. That's exactly what I do......on SW.

Candlelight234 · 10/12/2017 18:45

Historically I've been terrible at losing weight, been doing SW for just over a year and lost 3st.
In the kindest was You need decide if you are doing it or not, then stick to that decision.
Personally my tastes have changed, now I couldn't stand the thought of a ready meal, I like stews & salads. However I do enjoy chocolate & wine and I've lost it slowly as I do still enjoy rather too many of those.

Raisedbyguineapigs · 10/12/2017 18:59

Same here. I'm losing weight but slowly because I fall off the wagon at the weekend all the time then have to catch up at the weekend. Some people need to have the weekly meetings to keep on track or they fall off the wagon and never go back on again. It is a calorie deficit programme, of course it is. You have 15 'syns' a day which at a guess amount to approximately 300 calories, then 2 healthy extras, about 100 calories each so 500 calories. It is very difficult to eat over 1000 calories a day eating carbs, vegetables and protein without added fat, so you will in theory have a calorie deficit of 500 calories a day. You could just restrict yourself to 1500 calories a day on your own but if you cant stick to a diet, you cant stick to a diet, slimming world or no slimming world.

Iwanttobe8stoneagain · 10/12/2017 19:05

I’ve spent years on sw and ww. Complete yo yo dieting. Try calorie counting with mfp. It’s much better at preparing you for a lifetimes eating proper food rather some shit lets make x with muller light and pretend it’s y

iBiscuit · 10/12/2017 19:13

God yes, I need the meetings! It can get a bit AA at times but I find the peer support invaluable. It's not so much the hunning that does it for me but the sharing strategies with each other, discussing recipes, and even local knowledge ("the veg shop has some lush apples in at the moment", "The Crown do a really good chicken salad", "the butcher on the high street can do 5% fat mince"). Meeting people at group who've lost eight stone and kept it off is pretty motivational too, mind. Likewise the woman in her 60s who took up cycling for the first time since she was a teenager.

drquin · 10/12/2017 19:42

With the greatest of respect, if you openly admit to have no willpower ...... then SW is not the problem.

Argue all you like about the virtues or otherwise of SW and any other eating plan ..... but if you're meaning by "no will power", you have no / little restraint in terms of reducing calorie intake then it's not the "diet's" fault.

I say that as someone who lost 4 1/2 stone on SW but have put on a stone again ...... but that was not SW fault, it was mine for eating too much chocolate and meals out etc

Sanshin · 10/12/2017 19:57

Slimming world - biggest con going. You can stick to plan all you want but unless you're in a calorie deficit, you won't lose weight I'm afraid.

ALemonyPea · 10/12/2017 20:01

If you’ve not lost anything since January, you’re either not doing it right, or not doing it at all. It’s not the diet for you then.

You can do SW without eating muller lights and mugshots you know.

I’ve lost 7 stone on it, and kept it off since June.

You can’t just go back to your old style of eating habits once you get to target, otherwise you’ll just pile weight back on again (obviously).
