Grill or fry

My husband has just told me no-one grills burgers and everyone fries them. I’ve never heard anything of the sort! What do you do?

@LadyDeadpool McDobald's grill their beef burgers and sausage meat on a hot plate, it's only chicken and fish that are fried. I would oven burgers, easier to just leave them till they're done!

MrsPicklesonSmythe · 10/12/2017 19:27

Grill. Frying keeps more of the fat in and makes the whole house smell.

Mollie85 · 10/12/2017 19:27

I’m a bit useless- I oven cook everything - even bacon.

Not for particular health reasons but cause I’m too lazy to stand and watch food cook whilst flipping.

Eggs are clearly the exception.

My aunt used to deep fry everything - including fishfingers boak

I grill on a BBQ but if I'm cooking indoors I fry, either dry or with a spray of olive oil. . I like my burgers quite pink in the middle and domestic grills don't get hot enough to cook the outsides and still retain a pink centre , they tend to make them a uniform grey all the way through.

insancerre · 10/12/2017 19:29

Fry in a griddle pan
Same as steak

minipie · 10/12/2017 19:31

Fry on a very hot cast iron pan. It's the only way to have them browned on the outside but still pink and juicy on the inside. I guess a George Foreman type thing would work ok but we don't have one. Our oven grill doesn't get hot enough, unless I wanted them super well done which I very much don't.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/12/2017 19:32

I use a very hot griddle pan, no oil, when I make burgers - they don’t stick and taste delicious. I haven’t tried doing them under the grill - but frankly, you do whatever works for you. And if your dh wants his burger fried, he can fry it, and wash up the pan.

minipie · 10/12/2017 19:33

See I think of this as frying, or perhaps griddling. Not grilling.

Weedsnseeds1 · 10/12/2017 19:34

Griddle pan or bbq

Grilledaubergines · 10/12/2017 19:36

Probably a good idea to fry for longer. Whilst a piece of steak can be pink in the middle, a burger shouldn’t be pink at all. It carries much more bacteria as a minced meat.

XiCi · 10/12/2017 19:40

I dont have burgers very often and when I do it's usually on the BBQ. Otherwise I would fry them on a griddle pan or a hot non stick frying pan.

minipie · 10/12/2017 19:55

aubergines I buy decent beef, make the burgers myself and would rather take my chances with the bacteria than eat a grey burger!

Kenworthington · 10/12/2017 20:02

Oven (but on a grill pan so the far drips through). Would never occur to me to fry one.. sounds hideous

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 10/12/2017 20:05

Fry or grill.

insancerre · 10/12/2017 20:06

Why is it hideous?
I get wagu burgers
Nobody in their right mind would cook a steak in the oven, why is a burger any different?

ivenoideawhatimdoing · 10/12/2017 20:07

You can grill burgers?!

This is a revelation.

I have actually never heard of this!

We're having burgers for tea tomorrow now!

Grilledaubergines · 10/12/2017 20:19

minipie that’s good however the risk is the same - perhaps read up?

I have to say I’ve never seen a grey burger!

kaytee87 · 10/12/2017 20:22

If we make burgers it's usually in the summer for a bbq but on the odd occasion we're having them in the house we'd either grill or fry, if frying we would only use a tiny bit of olive oil brushed onto a griddle pan.

minipie · 10/12/2017 20:31

aubergines thanks for your concern, I'll continue to take the risk.

BIWI · 10/12/2017 20:32

grill their beef burgers and sausage meat on a hot plate

That's called frying!

limitedperiodonly · 10/12/2017 20:42

I griddle them but I fry loads of other things like sausages and steak
or veal or pork escalopes or chops and chicken quarters. People are very afeard of frying. I grill bacon because it's easier but I prefer fried bacon

BeALert · 10/12/2017 21:10

I think the confusion with McDonalds is because what the US calls grilling is different to what the UK calls grilling...

franktheskank · 31/12/2017 23:00

You can have burgers rare in the middle, in gourmet burger restaurants they are served medium, I used to work in one for a while!

Also in France they are served like that, they taste much better like that unless the meat is shit.
