To ask how you play music at home?

This is going to sound naïve, but we don't listen to much music, and for the last few years our only music playing device around the house has been an ipod nano, in an ipod docking station. I have all our old CDs transferred to my pc in iTunes, which I've been selectively syncing to the to the ipod, space permitting.

But, now the ipod is broken!!! Shock I only realised when I was putting up the Christmas Tree - I went to put on some Christmas tunes, and the navigation buttons no longer function.

So, what next? The world has moved on since we bought the ipod nano. Do people just use their phones to play music these days or is there an obvious "must have" device? If you use phones do they plug into your speakers using a wire or do you dock them? Our ipod dock does have an "audio in" hole at the back, so presumably it can be used as a traditional speaker too.

We all have Android phones, so if we were going to use those I guess we would need to use Google Play, yes? Or is there something else that's better? Does everyone just keep their music in the Cloud, and download it selectively to their phones if they're playing it regularly?

Please, help me navigate this .....

Sonos speaker, one in lounge one in kitchen, they can link and play together.
I stream Apple Music or amazon stuff

Sanshin · 10/12/2017 17:17

I play music from the computer via YouTube. Or through the TV via YouTube. Sometimes we'll play it through Spotify on our phones to Bluetooth speakers.

CrimbleCrackers · 10/12/2017 17:18

Watching .. Sorry I can't be of much help. I have an old iPod touch that's on a docker but it's on its way out too. I have music on my phone that I play over Bluetooth to a small rechargeable speaker or I plug it into the docker via aux cable - but it's very quiet then and unbalanced (can barely hear vocals, not sure why when its fine with the iPod). My problem is I hate iTunes, just can't get my head around it for some reason. And can also no longer transfer cds onto iTunes as they won't play on my pc anymore Sad.

Buttgandy · 10/12/2017 17:18

Kittenswithattitudeandchickens · 10/12/2017 17:21

iPhone and dock here

NisekoWhistler · 10/12/2017 17:21

Spotify account linked to Sonos

RestingGrinchFace · 10/12/2017 17:23

We have a radio/cd/Bluetooth combination

SpartonDregs · 10/12/2017 17:24

I have a radio, music on phone and imac, a vinyl record player and we can put the phone music through the record player's speakers.

CDs, downloads and apple music on the phone so can pretty much have anything we want.

JennyOnAPlate · 10/12/2017 17:26

iPod with dock, phone with Bluetooth speaker, YouTube or cds. I think we’ll get Spotify in the new year.

ColourofMagic · 10/12/2017 17:27

Spotify mainly, through tv/surround sound via ps4 or through phone to surround sound by Bluetooth.

HeadDreamer · 10/12/2017 17:27

Sonos. Controlled via phones and tablets around home, we got prime so use amazon music (because it is free with it). Otherwise I would like Spotify if it’s not so pricey!,

ScrabbleFiend · 10/12/2017 17:28

Spotify on phone plugged into stereo, or radio in kitchen or tune in radio on TV depending on what I'm doing.

Eroica · 10/12/2017 17:28

DS is currently treating me do a selection of tunes from Zelda ... played haphazardly on the piano.
But that probably is pretty niche.Grin

Ecureuil · 10/12/2017 17:29

Bose Bluetooth/WiFi speakers

JontyDoggle37 · 10/12/2017 17:29

Sonos - soundbar, sub and spot speakers in lounge (also run the tv surround sound through those), spot speaker in the kitchen and upstairs. All runs from phone apps and you can have different music playing in each zone at the same time. Not cheap but worth it.

Bubblysqueak · 10/12/2017 17:30

Amazon music on phone Bluetooth to Sony speakers, but hoping for an echo for Christmas so I can listen in the kitchen too (speakers are too big to move).

girlandboy · 10/12/2017 17:32

Amazon Echo using Amazon music and my daughter's Spotify.

But if I'm in the rear sitting room then I use my record player for our vinyl collection Grin

MickeyLuv · 10/12/2017 17:32

Use Deezer on my phone linked via Bluetooth to a wireless speaker or my car stereo. Or via my Google home speaker.

LivingInMidnight · 10/12/2017 17:33

You could buy a Bluetooth adapter for the Apple 30 pin connector and just stream from your phone to your current speaker for now.

mustbemad17 · 10/12/2017 17:34

My most favourite way to play music is through my record player! Sounds amazing.
I have Spotify on my phone otherwise I rely on the tv for the radio

Stabbytheunicorn · 10/12/2017 17:35

Spotify and Bluetooth speaker

Neverender · 10/12/2017 17:35

Phone has radio and all songs on it and we have a Braven speaker, they're awesome.
