To ask which MPV you drive and recommend?

Finally come to the conclusion we need an mpv for boot space and practicality.
We have look at a few and they all seem fairly similar. They are all so expensive though!
Which MPV do you drive and any tips for getting one at a good price?

Chevrolet Orlando, huge, seven seats or massive boot and very cheap!

Homemadeapplepie · 10/12/2017 12:51

I can recommend you don’t get Citroen C4 Grande-tons of room in boot and not dear to buy but so unreliable, ours spent more time being towed by the RAC than being driven by us! Never again. We have a Qashqai now but boot space not great, to be fair we only miss the boot space when taking DD to uni.

I absolutely loved my S-Max; I've had 2!

Malbecfan · 10/12/2017 12:57

VW Touran. On my 2nd now. The first did almost 120k miles in 7 years and never gave me a moment's trouble. Reliably returned over 50mpg (1.9l diesel). Took tons of clobber (household of musicians, so need to carry all variety of string instruments, stools, music stands, clothes etc. to gigs). 2nd one has smaller engine but equally frugal on fuel so far. Able to bring daughter, all her stuff from uni plus boyfriend and massive suitcase home from university last weekend with all 3 of us in comfort.

Had Renaults previously, one Scenic, the 1st model they did which was fine and one Grand Scenic which was unreliable. I second the comments above about Citroen's C4 Picasso. Looks great on paper, absolutely hopeless in reality.

We had a Mazda 5 a few years ago. It was brilliant in that it had a big boot and rear sliding doors. Brilliant for parking with the small children/strapping in etc. we didn't have any issues with it.

CondimentQueen · 10/12/2017 13:15

@Malbecfan I am so relieved to read your review of the Touran! We've just ordered ours and we'd been looking at the C4 Grand Picasso. Looks like we made the right choice!

SouthWindsWesterly · 10/12/2017 13:17

I’ve had two

Mazda5 - loved that car with its slidey doors

Nissan X-Trail -
Lovely to drive - better than the Mazda but the Mazda with the doors and space wins.

Malbecfan · 10/12/2017 13:27

@CondimentQueen no worries!

I should probably have added that I have checked out almost every MPV on the market because of the set-up of the instrument I play; I'd rather not give too many details so I don't out myself. The instrument itself goes in DH's Ford Ka but with all its added bits, I need a car with a low sill to load the boot and a high-ish roof so it fits in. The Mazda and Ford S Max are lovely cars but sadly would not fit the kit in as I want/need it. The Vauxhall Zafira looked good value but the space between the 2 middle row seats was too small to fit in my stuff. When we bought DD's Kia, the garage begged me to bring my stuff along as they were convinced their biggest car would be fine. I did, and it wouldn't fit in. The Nissan garage staff actually laughed at me - not getting any business ever from me. Toyota was helpful but the best they could offer was a small van. It just about went into the Citroen but was a nightmare to load. The VW salespeople were lovely, showing me how to move/lower the seats then left me to it.

I waited until I got an invitation from them to come to one of their sales events then drove a hard bargain on a car they needed to shift.

Sunnysidegold · 10/12/2017 13:56

I'm really dying to know what instrument you play!

ems137 · 10/12/2017 14:06

I've had a toucan and they're amazing!

We currently have a new Zafira because of a special discount DH got and they're just as good really. It's smooth and easy to drive and has a good spec inside

MayFayner · 10/12/2017 14:10

I have a Ford Grand C-Max which I absolutely love.

Nearly went for a Touran but we have two isofix car seats so with those installed there no way to access the third row of seats except through boot. The C-max middle seat folds away completely to give a little walkway to the back row.

SweepTheHalls · 10/12/2017 14:12

Avoid the Citroën c4 Picasso. Love our Ford Galaxy Smile

Wolfiefan · 10/12/2017 14:14

I love my s max. Great to drive. Fantastic visibility. Lots of room but doesn't feel like a bus! Wouldn't want to use the extra two seats for tall people!

Lillylollylandy · 10/12/2017 14:15

S Max here too. Swapped my BMW X5 for the S Max and absolutely love it.

MadamPatti · 10/12/2017 14:26

I have a Honda frv and I luffs it. 6 seats, 3 in the front and 3 in the back (like the old fiat multipla). Decent sized boot, not too large a car. The only problem is they were last made in 2009, so not too many about anymore. X

Ilovechocolatetoomuch · 10/12/2017 16:22

Thanks Everyone. Citroen is defo out then!

C-Max are good for boot space. Maybe look into getting an ex motability car. DP paid £9k this year for a 2014 C-Max mid range model and I think the mileage on it was at the lower end of what you'd expect for it's age.

MisfitNotMissFit · 10/12/2017 21:25

Chevrolet Orlando - good size seven seater - which can actually seat 7 adults (I had to transport 6 burly men back from a night out on Sat and they all fitted in fine.

I've got a 2l diesel, have had it for five years. Very reliable, cost effective and, surprisingly for a mpv, great acceleration and a gutsy engine. I also use it for towing a 7.2m caravan, with five passengers and a bootful of stuff and it never disappoints.

I've had a few others in the past, Citroen C8, Ford and Vauxhall, and the Chevy beats them all hands down.
