To have never had sickness or a stomach bug?

Gottagetthroughthis17 · 09/12/2017 17:07

I have never in my life had a stomach bug of any kind. I didn't even have morning sickness with either of my two pregnancies. My children have never had a stomach bug so far either (4 and 2).

Aibu to think this is unusual? My OH seems to have an upset stomach every other week.

OP posts:
IrkThePurist · 09/12/2017 17:08

That does sound unusual, but so does having them every week. I've only had a couple, from dodgy takeaways.

Pomegranatemolasses · 09/12/2017 17:11

The U in Aibu stands for ‘unreasonable’ not ‘unusual’.

Crunchymum · 09/12/2017 17:13

Technically the OP is asking if she is unreasonable to find her not having bugs is unusual Pomegranate

Magpie24 · 09/12/2017 17:15

No you're not being unreasonable, that is unusual. Out of interest do you and your husband have similar diets? Do you eat anything in particular that he doesn't? As someone with IBS I'm always intrigued to hear about people with strong stomachs!

Pomegranatemolasses · 09/12/2017 17:15

Ah yes, I see that now.

In that case, yanbu Op. 🙂

bakingcupcakes · 09/12/2017 17:16

I think it's amazing! I'm becoming increasingly paranoid about stomach bugs. Before DS I'd never had one. Since DS I get about 3 a year. I dread them.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 09/12/2017 17:17

No morning sickness, never had a tummy bug. Only throwing up is hangover related. The only time I recall my son being sick was entirely due to a surfeit of icing on a birthday cake.

I put mine down to growing up drinking unpasteurised milk, cream, butter and cheese from our own cows. My own kitchen standards fall well below MN standards (cats on table, ignore use by dates, scrape mould off, don't bother washing fruit)

IkissedatwirlandIlikedit · 09/12/2017 17:30

Do you know your blood group? Norovirus can't attach to B blood groups apparently.

lljkk · 09/12/2017 17:32

What is your blood type, OP?

jelliebelly · 09/12/2017 17:38

Im the same as you - I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been sick in my life and two of those were alcohol induced Blush

Whizziwig · 09/12/2017 17:39

I am similar although I have had them in the past, but only about 5 times, mostly as a child. I can only remember being sick once as an adult. When pregnant, I was nauseous but never sick. I've never been sick through alcohol either, despite often getting very drunk as a youngster! I think some people are more prone to sickness than others, just as some people are more likely to get coughs/throat infections etc. I've had tonsillitis lots of times but DP has never had it.

keepingbees · 09/12/2017 17:43

I think some people are more prone to them than others, but to never have had one is v unusual - and lucky!

bruffin · 09/12/2017 17:44

Stomach bugs are very rare in our house. Dcs are in 20s and can think of about 5 sickness bugs between them, cant remember dh ever vomiting in 30 years except when he hed appendicitis. I dont get stomach bugs either, however my bf from school family alway were getting them.

Im b+ , however think dh is o but not sure what dc are

lljkk · 09/12/2017 17:58

fwiw, blood type O is somewhat linked to getting more bugs & AB linked to getting many fewer. It's to do with some receptor for norovirus & who tends to have it. It's not at all a perfect predictor, though. I'm AB & I have had lots of tum bugs.

daisypond · 09/12/2017 18:08

I've never had a stomach bug or sickness - and I'm 50. I've had three DC and didn't get morning sickness either, though did feel nauseous at times. I don't know what my blood group is. How do you find out?

bruffin · 09/12/2017 18:10

It would have been on your records when you were pregnant daisy

Cornettoninja · 09/12/2017 18:18

That's really lucky imho.

Out of interest do you get bugs that affect the other end?

namechange2222 · 09/12/2017 18:21

I'm in my 50's. I've never had a stomach bug and have only vomitted during teen years after booze, not during pregnancy. I did have an allergy to a shell fish and have diarrhoea and abdominal cramps a couple of times, That's it and I'm not a clean freak

OhNoOhNo · 09/12/2017 18:21

No stomach bugs and haven't vomited since I was 12 but do get constipated alot. TMI.

Deux · 09/12/2017 18:24

They're vanishingly rare in this house. DCs have only had 2. I've only had one ever and that was actually food poisoning.

I think some families do seem to be prone to them though. Neither DC were sicky babies. Friends whose children were sicky babies seem to be more prone to sickness bugs now they're older.

Ilovewheelychairs · 09/12/2017 18:25

I am a magnet for all things stomach bug related. I’m a teacher and have had norovirus 4 times over the last 8 years, and my blood group is B+! I think you generally have one weakness. Mine is my stomach, but I never get headaches for example. Other people get ear infections lots but I don’t get them at all. Just entirely on where you’re most susceptible I think.

Owlish · 09/12/2017 18:29

I don't think I've ever had a stomach bug/D&V/food poisoning. Self-inflicted hangover vomiting or migraine queasiness, yes. I'm 51 and blood group A+.

maddiemookins16mum · 09/12/2017 18:30

No morning sickness here (only realised I was pregnant at 14 weeks gone). The only major time I had a bad bout of sickness was when we cooked our Turkey overnight on low one Christmas. Boxing Day was not a pretty sight believe me, it lasted 4 days (the sickness not the Turkey).

AgentProvocateur · 09/12/2017 18:32

I’m 50 and I had my first non-alcohol related d&v this year. I though I was dying!

RockNRollNerd · 09/12/2017 18:40

You most likely have genetic resistance to Norovirus, rather than it being a specific blood group. It's 'linked' to blood type only in that it's the same modifications that define your blood type, but in those with resistance the modifications don't occur in your gut only on your blood cells.

I have the gene that gives me resistance and have never had a stomach bug, nor have either of my parents who were both primary school teachers and so were exposed to it many many times in their lives so I presume they both have it too.
