AIBU?

to still be smiling at this ages after I heard it?

A trailer for the tv comedy Gameface had the line which went something like "Don't pick up the cat. He's just eaten a kebab." This was on tv weeks ago and I still break into a smile when I think of it. AIBU to ask this or just slightly doolally but what other one liners from comedy programmes do people still find funny no matter how many times they hear it or how long ago it was last on tv? Another one that springs to my crazy mind is Basil Fawlty saying "Is this a piece of your brain" to the annoying woman who wouldn't turn her hearing aid on because it used up the batteries. Smile

'People voted for the nazis & listen to Coldplay, Jez, you can't trust people.!'

Hungryradish thank you! I've been looking for that quote for ages because I thought it was by a serious philosopher or writer

And in the Gay Musical episode of IT crowd when Jen first sees Roy in a wheelchair, then turns to get a drink and Moss is behind the bar. I often watch that episode, probably the funniest of any series ever.

Also when the date in it bursts into tears and confesses he's gay and tells Jen "I thought I'd be able to handle it because you look a little bit like a man" 😂😂😂😂

I must correct my earlier post - my brain cells aren't what they were. Rigsby is teasing Alan about his lack of experience with women, Alan knows all about 'it' but it is implied that he is still a virgin, "I know where the Himalayas are but I've never been up'em."

Another vote for Adam Buxton.

One particularly funny moment I love is him discussing ‘Ned Rock’nRoll’ Richard Branson’s son who Kate Winslet had recently married...

Honestly this is just joyous - give it a listen if you need to laugh Grin

And also any of Adam Buxton’s ‘bug’ series, which you can also watch on you tube which is just him reading you tube comments out. It’s simple but hilarious.

@WendyMad whilst I agree with you about that moment being hilarious. I must correct you on the 'our hero's kid sister' it is not, in the first movie Andy's little sister is only a baby. It is Nasty evil Sid next door's kid sister.

Unless of course you view Sid as the hero... in which case you are wrong but also obviously crazy and I'm not about to argue with you Grin

Spike Milligan Sad I read his war diaries and creased up at 'we got porridge. It was cold. Only one way to warm it up - eat it!' I was on a train, I think Grin

Peter Cook and Dudley Moore (really old !) - Moore is interviewing the one-legged Cook for a job. ' Your left leg is great. I've got nothing against your left leg. Trouble is, neither have you'

Grin

O and the totally fantastic Blowers on the cricket -'the Batsman's Holding, the Bowler's Willey' Followed by 5-10 minutes of trying not to corpse on air Grin

Spike Milligan's war diaries are indeed hilarious ptumbi

When he's just enlisted and the Sargent looks him up and down
Sarge: where are you from Milligan?
Spike: London Sir!
Sarge: Which part?
Spike: All of me Sir!

@soupforbrains, thanks for the correction. Nope, I don't regard Sid next door as the hero ... that would be crazy ... Smile

I love this thread!

Not lines, but when Vic and Bob were on Comic Relief about a million years ago, may even have been the first one, and did 75 pints and a song. I cried with laughter and still watch it on a regular basis.

Another not a line, but a sketch, More Cowbell, which is among the funniest things I've ever seen. Oh and there is one line in it, from Christopher Walken, "Guess what! I have a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell"

Oh and a real life one!

Someone mentioned the Alan Patridge one where Lynn tells him he smells nice and he says he's just been to the toilet.

Years ago a friend and I were visiting my mum, we'd come in the front door and my friend said "Oh that smells nice, Raven's mum, what are you cooking" and my mum said "I've just farted."

Even typing that I'm laughing.

The Thick of It, Malcolm, when asked where Blinky Ben is, "I sent him for cheese".

I think it might be in the extras from the dvd, about Jamie, "He trained as a priest".

The easy peasy line came from the Thick of It movie, In the Loop.
Also from the movie, two people discussing the seating plan (I think) for an international conference. (I paraphrase.) "It doesn't matter where you put the Canadians. They're just happy to be invited." As a Canadian, this cracks me up.

The Peep Show, Mark: "Piss kidney."

Blackadder Goes Forth, when Blackadder gets George to pretend to sketch the view of enemy lines and tells him to guess. The result, "Maybe not quite so many elephants."

(Ack, I'm getting it messed up. I'll have to watch it tonight. I think I bought the whole series on iTunes.)

Wow, I’ve never met people who have read Spike Milligan’s War Diaries before Grin Every time I mention them as amongst my favourite books people look at me like Hmm

My favourite bit is when they’re in North Africa and somehow get hold of a bottle of Schnapps. They swig from it and someone spits it into the fire, sending up a sheet of flame: “Christ, if they can drink this stuff they really ARE the Master Race!”

Oh and poor Havelock the dog too Sad

Another Spike lover here.

I like when the Commanding Officer says to Spike Milligan: "Milligan!
What are you doing here?" he replies "Everyone's got to be somewhere, Sir." Grin

I always want to use that one day but never remember in time.
