Do you hate workmen in your home or is it just me?

So I have the Hilary's blind man in today fitting some blinds in my house.
I feel so self conscious ..I know I will feel this way till he's gone.
Does anyone else get this way?
Or am I just weird?

I thought it was just me Grin
The dc is always wanting to

Sorry, pressed post too soon.

The dc is always wanting to strike up a conversation usually whilst refusing to put her trousers on and the dog will try to sit in their knee/foot/hand or any body par touching the floor.

For me it depends on the workmen. Some make me feel uneasy and unable to relax, especially if they don't seem to know what they're doing and take loads of breaks.
Recently had new boiler and other work done, it took 3 days and the workmen were great (British Gas, amazingly!!) they were so focused on what they were doing and worked non stop. I just carried on with my normal routine, apart from giving them tea and biscuits every few hours.
Had intended to just tell them where the kettle was and let them get on with it but realised they probably wouldn't want to stop working and I didn't want them to flake out.

tradesmenwoes · 09/12/2017 11:36

I hate it because of having to stop what I'm doing every 2 hours to make their tea. Also that not one person I've ever hired has done a decent job so I'm always on edge about what they're doing.

Very apt name tradesmenwoes, it's a fecking mine field isn't itSad. I sometimes feel like they take one look at me and think, mug then rip the piss with the price and the job. That's using all these supposed review sites to get better tradesmen. Did get my painter through one and he is a cracker but the other 10 or so jobs needing done in last 4years have been bloody depressing.

I get anxious because I don’t know if I’m meant to leave them to it, is that rude? Do I chat to them or is that annoying and distracting? I usually offer tea or coffee and spend ages getting it ready and hope that kills some time. I just feel awkward and rude whatever I do.

gamerwidow · 09/12/2017 12:23

I hate it too because I’m introverted and I never really know how to act around them. As I supposed to engage them in chit chat? Ignore them and let them get on with it? Do I stay in the room with them? Is it better to sit quietly somewhere else? Have I given them enough tea? Should I offer them more biscuits? It’s a minefield and I can’t relax until they are gone.

FatherChewieLouie · 09/12/2017 12:29

He finished the blinds and I said ..wow do you always finish so fast?
Sorry OP but Grin

PaxUniversalis · 09/12/2017 12:29

Yep. It's like an invasion of your home and your home is no longer YOUR home. There is no privacy.
BUT the work needs to be done and once it's done you'll be pleased with the result I hope. All the best.

I agree, depends on the work person. We had a local builder give us a quote. He stood in our hall on a chilly afternoon wearing skintight shorts and a vest. He started asking me about exercise....did I like to keep fit/gym. Me, a good two stone overweight, looked at him askance “umm, not so much”.

Needless to say, didn’t choose him to do the work.
