AIBU- to not go to a christening

I did not go to friends DS christening due to me and DS being ill. I let friend know the day after as I didn't want to bother her or divert her attention away from their special day. I apologised lots but couldn't be helped.

I've gone to everything in the past, weddings, baby shower and birthdays.

Ever since she has been really offish with me late replies on texts and not replying at all... since I didn't go.

I get that it was an important day but I would of thought being a parent they would get I'm not going to drag DS out to stand in a freezing church whilst he's there coughing and spluttering his guts up.

You need to try and make it up to her. Grovel and say sorry 100 times if you need to.

Firstly you didn’t show up with no message that’s rude, but also a cough and cold? Is that all it was? Most people wouldn’t miss a good friends child’s christening for the world so to not go for a relatively minor reason (and without telling her) I can see why she’d be a bit put out tbh.

I think you’ve hurt her. You claim to be a good friend but didn’t even have the courtesy to call her and explain. Your excuse is pretty weak too. If you don’t want to go to an event simply say so when the invitation is issued. That said, it’s a bit mean not pitching up even if you think your child will be bored. Most churches are heated. A bit of coughing and spluttering would have been less hurtful than simply abandoning her.
