AIBU to spend money on this

My 6yo DD has recently expressed an interest in going to see a ballet at a local theatre. We have monthly girls days out because she misses my sole attention since we moved in with DP. 2 tickets will set me back around £60. While I can afford it, I’m not sure if it won’t be a waste of money given she’s so young, although she is interested in dance. Has anybody else taken such a young child to a ballet with success and can you recommend one in particular?

If you can afford it and she's got the attention span totally worth it. My mum used to take me from that age. Nutcracker and Swan Lake were my favourites.

I've taken my 6yrs old to see Swan Lake and she enjoyed it! I found it a bit boring because it's not my kind of thing but it was worth it for her! Next stop I'll try my kind of scene and take her to a decent opera if there is an early enough performance/matinee :)

I took my 4 year old to The Nutcracker, she really enjoyed it.

Definitely. I have been taking dd to see age appropriate musicals since she was 4. She has developed such a love for them.

It's something special we do together now.

Took my Just turned 8yr old to see The Nutcracker broadcast from the ROH into UK cinemas on Tuesday just gone. He loved it but he does dance ballet so would have been a bit surprised if he didn’t! The Nutcracker is only 55 minutes each act with an interval in between so not necessarily too much for a 6yo! Maybe look at taking her to a broadcast performance in the cinema first and see if it holds her attention? We only paid £14.95 or something like that each for the cinema tickets, so not too awful if she decides she doesn’t want to watch!

(Suppose I should mention we recently took him to see Phantom of The Opera in London for his 8th birthday as it was all he wanted to do so I suppose with it being an interest of his he might be more likely to sit through it than if it wasn’t, iykwim.)

Definitely worth it. But that's expensive. DS's first ballet was £10 tickets in the gods at the colosseum age 4, he's going again this week with school- 11 years on. Wink
