Leaving the prices on

I was shopping today with a friend and we happened across a pair of slippers she wanted to buy for her DH for Christmas. They were £45 but reduced to £25.

Apparently she'll be leaving the original price tags on to let him know what she (hasn't) spent on him. She was quite proud about telling me she does it to everyone. I was just Shock

AIBU to think this a bit snobby? Is it snobbery or something else?
Anyone else do this?

(The AIBU is about leaving the tags on on purpose btw, not getting a bargain)

Not snobbery but it is a little bit deceitful. Nothing to really get worked up over though.

Cornishmumofone · 08/12/2017 17:53

Seems a bit tacky to me.

BrutusMcDogface · 08/12/2017 17:54

Tacky is the word. Really tacky. Hmm

Insomnibrat · 08/12/2017 17:57

It was just the 'I've bought you this and I want you to know how much it set me back'-ness of it.

Insomnibrat · 08/12/2017 17:57

And I agree with PP. Tacky!

It's just crass IMO in most scenarios.

A few years ago however, a Secret Santa in work (although I knew it was her so not secret!) left the price tag on my gift on purpose. Our budget was £15 and she bought me a designer purse that she'd found in a discount outlet closing down sale...and it had been £12 reduced from £175 Shock . She was so gobsmacked at finding such a bargain she said she'd had to leave the tag on to show me. I think I would have done too though!

My mother does this.

It is indeed tacky.

BakerBear · 08/12/2017 18:00

My auntie does this. Even with cards she leaves the sticker on the back

Forgetting is one thing, but making a point of how much was spent just seems....weird.
