Two years ago dd was removed from school for bullying and home educated for approximately six weeks while we found a new school out of town BUT under the same Health Trust.

She has been at her new school for 19 months.

As she was in a mixed year group when they came in to do the age 14 meningitis/polio/tetanus vaccinations they did the 13 year olds too while they were there including dds.

This year she again got a form (some children join in year ten) for the same vaccinations. I sent the form back to the school nurse explaining she had had them no problem.

Each time putting on her NHS number and full details including GP.

In between this the community school nurse contacted me to arrange the second Cervical cancer Jab as she had missed it during her school move. The community school nurse said to her at the time that she had all her vaccinations for life now unless she needed any as an adult (dd hates needles hence it was relevant) and made comment about her being back in school and asked for the name of the school to record so they definitely have details and have been passed immunisation details.

This morning I have received in the post another letter for the same vaccinations from the trust that covers both our area and the schools with a home ed vaccination clinic. Confused

I've contacted the doctor and confirmed that I'm not going mad and she HAS had all of these immunisations and she has and they have been passed details of these by the Trust covering both towns.

Surely there should be a linked up system somewhere?? Surely it's not that uncommon for kids to move school and surely they have had home ed kids re enter school before?

A. It doesn't seem safe that they don't know if a child is in education or not, mine isn't at risk but a child could be.

B. Some parents might not realise it's the same jabs and re vaccinate.

C. I'm guessing some home educated parent who has not turned up for vaccination clinic would raise up flags for investigation.

Aibu to think it's not that hard to look up her name and address on the system and see she has had these jabs!

I have the opposite problem, dd 15 year 10 educated from home due to health

Vaccine authority only do immunisations in schools and refuse to hand over care to our gp practice so I cannot actually get her immunised

Just can’t make it up, have been trying to speak to them about it for 3 weeks but no answer phone and they never answer calls

Doggonedays · 08/12/2017 14:38

Yeh I can't seem to get in touch with anyone either.
Oh well if you are anywhere near me you are welcome to the three extra ones dd has been offered Hmm

Have you tried contacting getting the school nurse details from the doctor for your community school nurse rather than the central number.

That's the only way I had any luck last time and they could do vaccinations for kids not in school at a local clinic.

Your dd was in education, home ed is education.

They had a record of her. She was on their system as home educated. They just haven't communicated between departments.

There is no legal duty to register as home educated. It's a massive debate. But home ed shouldn't be a safeguarding concern. If a child is missing from education, that's a different matter.

FlakeBook · 08/12/2017 14:51

schroedinger, you need to contact the school nurse. Home ed children still have access to the school nursing service.

Doggonedays · 08/12/2017 14:59

Of course I forgot about them not having to be registered.

That said we lived here for years with dd registered with a doctor and nursery then school. Some years later I had to contact the school nurse for something and the HV and following school nurse were completely unaware she was in area. There had been a communication error and no one had told them. They said they would be in big trouble if anyone found out so they are generally a bit lax!

I'm not saying home ed children are a safeguarding concern BTW.
I just meant that no one seemed to have a record of where dd was and that didn't seem safe in general.

Obviously before I realised they don't have to be registered I mean.

It's annoying. But they would be in more trouble if people were missed. So I suppose they are just making triple sure.

Nousernameforme · 08/12/2017 15:57

schrodingerscat I wanted ds done outside of school as he has a thing about needles. When we turned up for the appointment we were told that they didn't do it and it had to be done by the school.
We had missed the school one by this time, they then sent out a letter asking us to go to the docs on a certain day and get it done. It included everyone else who had missed it for whatever reason. So you should get a letter in a few weeks about it. You can always phone the nurse though as said upthread

Schroedingerscatagain · 08/12/2017 19:48

Just to clarify, dd is not home educated she is educated from home but attends a school over the internet

Our surgery have already spoken to the relevant services who see her as a conundrum

Dd is anxious, asd and a fainter she would not set foot in a school building as they suggested to our practice and would have a panic attack if they came to her safe place, home

The only place she accepts injections yearly lying down for flu is the surgery and she can’t be vaccinated there
