To ask why I should ditch my slow cooker and get an Instant Pot?

Please tell me why this electric marvel will revolutionise my cooking life. At the moment, I use the slow cooker for spag Bol, stews, etc, but it would be great to be able
to do things a bit faster but left unattended, as I have a riotous toddler.

@Viviennemary to be fair they have changed a lot. I was terrified of the one my Mum had when I was a kid but the new ones are nothing at all like the scary ones of old.

I was terrified it was going to explode. It was if it was alive. Shock My slow cooker gave up a while ago and been meaning to get a new one for ages but there's such a huge amount of choice these days. Might even look at these new contraptions. Thanks!

yeah my mum had a pressure cooker and it definitely gave off that improvised explosive vibe.

the gadgety ones aren't scary at all

I love my instant pot. It works really well for a busy family. I can "slow" cook a joint of beef in an hour.

shhhfastasleep · 09/12/2017 18:28

Considering it but I'm very old and pretty scarred by pressure cooker use from 70s and 80s (mum, then me).
I loved it but it wasn't as chilled out a cooking prep experience as my slow cooker. I get the thing on while my dd is getting ready for school then I come home from dropping her off and start my day working from home with delicious cooking smells to keep me company. Dh comes Home with dd and all we have to do is serve it up. No dicking about with ingredients when we are all tired and (at the moment) cold.

Any recommendations for a slow cooker medium sized and not too complicated. There's so many on the market now. When my old one broke I got a new one with the pot divided into two compartments. It was reduced now I can see why. Couldn't get on with that and gave it away. Haven't had another one.

i love mine, and have been all over most of the IP threads on here saying so! i name change a lot

I use mine very often to start things off....so shin of beef casserole just the onions/celery/carrots and get that sweated off, sear the meat, add the minimum of stock, do it under pressure for 35 mins, or whatever the stew preset is, then once it has depressured I will then carry on with it on the slow cook function

same for bolognaise/beef in beer/venison

it'll slow cook a casserole in about 4 hours, but you can adjust that either way

I love mine!

We've just had a gammon joint with veg for dinner. 25 mins pressure to cook the gammon and it was so tender and juicy. I steamed the veg in it too.

MadisonAvenue · 09/12/2017 19:08

dadap it is but that's just private sellers overinflating the price due to demand. I paid just over £100 for my 8 litre version.

GailLondon · 09/12/2017 19:09

It would be more like £90 when it is back in stock properly!

hidinginthenightgarden · 09/12/2017 19:10

Chicken is amazing in the IP.
That said, it is crap as a slow cooker.
I would keep slow cooker and have both. I have two SC and one IP.

pisacake · 09/12/2017 19:14

I got mine for £70 last year. Usual price just under £100
