Posting here for traffic and quick advice.

DS (5) has a horrible, horrible mucousy cough.
He's had a bit of a cold for a couple of days but this cough is something else! Sad

He's coughing so much it's making him sick, and he's so, so miserable.

I'm not going to take him to the doctor for a cough, nor do I really want to take him to town with me to see a pharmcist because
a) The virus he has seems to spread really easily and I'm sure the general population would rather avoid it
b) We'd have to walk and it's pissing it down and windy and the poor sod has a bit of temp.

I seem to remember that kids cough syrup doesn't really do anything anyway is that right?

I will go into town and get anything I need, can leave DS with my Dad, who has the same virus anyway.

I've tried steam baths with eucalyptus/menthol in, vapour rub etc etc.

AIBU to ask for any medicines/remedies/home made stuff you use for wee ones with horrible coughs?

Dd is finally over this and back to chirpy self. She got relief when we used the calpol plug in, humidifier, snufflebabe on feet and chest plus a spray of sterimar all at the same time. Cold air made her much worse, even just the school run ( 10 mins outside)

ILostIt.....after the hell I went through just trying to get him to have some bloody salt spray....there is absolutely no way on this earth I would have tried getting him to drink moss!! Grin

I'd have been wearing it.

As it is everytime I get out the Sterimar I have to bribe him with copious amounts of sweets!
He's developed a rapid and Pavlovian reaction to the sight of the spray bottle! Grin

And honey and lemon would be great, but I literally cannot get him to drink it under any circumstances!
He had one sip and has refused it ever since.

The closest I've got so far is OJ diluted with hot water!

He's gone downhill again a bit tonight but then I think that's pretty standard for this type of thing isn't it?

I'll go through the full frontal assault again tonight and see how it goes.

I'm gonna run out of haribo for bribing for the bloody salt spray though...

BzyB I can't believe how many remedies I've been using in one go just to shift this bloody cough!

I feel like a cross between a herbalist and an evil drugs baron at the moment, the amount of things I'm shoving into DS/making him inhale/rubbing on him......I'm considering leeches next! Grin

All of the above
plus Halls soothers - the sugar free strawberry kind - they seemed to help but they can't have too many. And blackcurrant glycerine pastilles from boots to pacify them when saying no you can't have another halls one!

The spray is pretty rank to use but it does seem to help! Glad he's getting over it. My LO has developed a cold/cough today AGAIN so he will be getting some treatment suggested on here too! Shock

Vicks on the feet. Works every time for DS (and me)
