AIBU in thinking if your child throws up in a store you leave afterwards

Today we visited Ikea, whilst strolling through children's section, parents with a toddler are looking at items when their child promptly projectile vomits. They clean up the floor, myself and another lady get assistance from instore staff for them to.
They merrily carried on shopping after this with their asleep child now held in their arms. We kept bumping in to them whilst I kept rapidly walking away
I don't understand this, if that was me I would have abandoned my shopping trip and drove straight home, hoping my child stayed asleep the whole way home and wasn't ill again.
So AIBU in thinking they should have left instead of walking round with an ill child plus not washed themselves up (hands etc). Possibly spreading a sickness bug through the store?

Oh I get it and completely agree. But no one else on the school threads ever seems to! I don't need convincing

Dd (was aged c2yrs)full on vommed in fruit and veg section at Sainsburys. Everything cleaned up. She felt better - new dress hastily bought and we continued shopping.
If she'd looked unwell we would have left

I thought you meant they should leave out of embarrassment!

cannotmakemymindup · 08/12/2017 00:24

lilliepixie no I didn't mean it like that. I wonder if anyone else thought so to.

It was purely from a hygiene point if view and me wondering when/if their child was going to wake up and be ill again, whilst I was shopping.

Think you're being a bit dramatic to be honest.

As an emetophobe, you wouldn’t have seen me for dust as soon as I registered vomit! But, for the record, anti-bac wipes won’t work on norovirus and it’s airborne so the particles will be floating around and landing on surfaces for a long while after someone vomits. You don’t have to get many in your nose or mouth (which you then swallow) to get the virus yourself. Then there’s the ones you’ll pick up on your hands if you touch anything infected with it. That alone makes me run for the hills if anyone vomits around me and, if it was norovirus, you’ll have likely got it from being there at the time and sticking around in the area, sorry to say.

If it wasn’t norovirus then it’s still grim to not wash their hands before spreading the contents of their child’s stomach around the store! What most civilsed people would do is go home if the child is ill, but if not, use wipes to clear the worst and then go straight to a toilet to wash our hands properly! I can’t believe how many on here think it’s acceptable not to!

I don’t think YABU at all.

With two of my DC, yes I would have gone straight home.

DS1, however, used to projectile vomit if scared or if he downed a bottle too fast or sometimes quite randomly. And I mean projectile.

It only started when he went on to solid food, and there was no medical reason. It was very embarrassing at times. But no, I wouldn't have taken him home if he'd fallen asleep. It stopped by the time he was 4.

At this time of year its more likely to be winter vomiting bug and sadly you will find a lot of parents lack the basic common sense and consideration for others and will continue to be selfish arses taking their ill child out to sprrad to everyone else. Infact what parents should be doing is putting their ill child before their own selfish needs and stay at bloody home because we don't all want your mucky germs thanks.

How did they spread the contents of the child's stomach around the store?

They cleaned up as best they could with minimum equipment. Confused
