To think Trumps' Jerusalem decision will officially make America a danger to world peace?

Not content with helping to inflame tensions with North Korea, he intends to officially recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, despite warning calls from the Pope, the UN, the King of Saudi Arabia, The turkish president, and allied leaders in the Middle East.

"The Palestinian envoy to the UK, Manuel Hassassian, told the BBC: “If [Trump] says what he is intending to say about Jerusalem being the capital of Israel, it means a kiss of death to the two-state solution."

Apparently there will be an official announcement today.

AIBU to fear what this will do to the world and see America as threat to world peace?

Indeed kursk

The moving of the US embassy has been discussed by previous presidents too. Its nothing new!

HadronCollider · 06/12/2017 18:49

About to be cheered up by Farage speaking on 'May back tracking on delivering the Brexit you voted for'

Laugh or cry?

He can do one as well.

Gingernaut · 06/12/2017 18:50

Considering our track record in foreign affairs lately, any move by Donald Trump which has Boris Johnson saying 'steady now' is a scary, scary move.

Hadn’t America been considered a danger to world peace since at least 2002?

AnachronisticCorpse · 06/12/2017 18:52

He has singlehandedly caused thousands of deaths with one short speech.

There are already riots in the streets of Jerusalem, there will be an increased threat from Isis, both sides will ramp up hostilities.

The man is a fucking liability.

LineysRunner · 06/12/2017 18:55

But the Old City of Jerusalem and East Jerusalem aren't in Israel. They're in the Occupied Territories.

Israel can call West Jersualem (west if the Green Line) whatever it likes. But not the East.

HadronCollider · 06/12/2017 18:57

Completely agree AnachronisticCorpse.

To be balanced there is no two state solution, its 80 years old and we are no further forward with it. So its not killing anything that isn't already dead.

And calls from the Pope, the King of Saudi Arabia, the Turkish president, and allied leaders in the Middle East aren't necessarily calls you ever want to listen to. The UN maybe has a point but it a pretty useless body at best.

No reason why Palestine, cant also declare the city as their capital.

As for violence breaking out, when has there ever not been violence in the area? So possibly just business as usual. Maybe it will be a catalyst to move forward on some sort of realistic peace process.

user1492877024 · 06/12/2017 19:05

Sorry, but I support Trump fully.

Fekko · 06/12/2017 19:12

Why? He is opening up a whole can of worms there and there will be violence on sides. He will have blood on his hands.

lljkk · 06/12/2017 19:14

USA didn't endorse two state solution until last few decades, or maybe 40 yrs ago. Definitely not before that.

HadronCollider · 06/12/2017 19:16

Why User? cause I really can't see an upside to this. Genuinely interested.

I think the USA has officially recognised Jerusalem as the Israeli capital for a long time. It’s written down somewhere. As Kursk says, though, previous presidents and administrations have conveniently forgotten/ignored that in order to keep the peace, so to speak.

As we are rapidly realising, Trumo doesn’t seem to really give a fuck about any of it. I. Can’t qork out if he’s deliberately goady, or very principled, or extremely stupid. Probably a mixture of the three...

Sorry for all the typos

Kursk · 06/12/2017 20:34

I don’t think he is stupid, you need to be pretty intelligent to get to where he is.

JustDanceAddict · 06/12/2017 20:36

He is so dangerous and scary, and needs to get the fuck out of Israel’s business

ThatsNotMyToddler · 06/12/2017 20:41

I fear you’re right kursk. But there are different kinds of intelligence.

I find him difficult to fathom. Obviously we don’t know the man behind the persona, but nearly everything he does or says is so much the opposite to my feelings on whatever the subject. It would be fascinating if it weren’t so scary.

justdance the US feels that Israel is very much its business and has supported it for many years. And Israel benefits hugely from that support so us not about to tell them where to go.

We live in strange times.

lljkk · 07/12/2017 05:07

Something like 1995 the US Congress recognised Jerusalem as capital, but decision to relocate embassy has been reviewed every 6 months since then. So there was another reason, besides distraction, why now!

Thrubwell · 07/12/2017 10:36

As Mueller's investigation is now focusing more on DT (they have requested financial records from Deutsche Bank) he is looking to create whatever distractions he can, however it impacts the lives of others.

NotWeavingButDarning · 07/12/2017 13:12

Exactly, Lineys. A lot of people don't seem to have grasped this, which is of course the crux of the problem, at all.
