To hate Pinterest

It's not just the general tweeness of the place, it's the fact that it is like bindweed on the internet. I just type for pretty ideas in google, whose image search these days is just as good as Pinterest, and yet all the links take me to Pinterest, and unless I sign in, I'm not allowed to go to the website directly. No thankyou, I don't want your massive shitty app on my phone, nor do I want to sign in. I'd love to just scroll down the page and click a link thanks. Please? No? Ok, fuck off then, I'll think of how to craft a 4 foot triangular piece of wood into the face of santa all on my fucking own then. Aghhh!

Thanks for the tip on the way to exclude it from the search. I am a bit disappointed with myself for not knowing about that trick!!

"Victoriam memento mori"

Which is a myth anyway.

BillywilliamV · 06/12/2017 20:53

Have you looked, they look pretty real to me

Pluckedpencil · 07/12/2017 06:17

After some pointless research on momento mori, I can confirm they are not real unless they are lying own or in a coffin. Still pretty freaky though.

Yanbu.

I can’t stand it.

PasstheStarmix · 07/12/2017 06:29

YABU I love the visuals and creativity without pin I wouldn't have made the mega batch of killer cookie/brownies that everyone loved!

Neapolitanpink · 07/12/2017 06:35

I love it as long as I don't want to click to the webpage for the picture, then it gets annoying.

I use it for ideas for things that I'll figure out how to make. And for hair, years ago I'd cut out pictures from magazines to show the hairdresser what I wanted, pintrest is much easier.

JennyBlueWren · 07/12/2017 06:48

As a teacher I find it great for getting ideas but have also found it annoying when a Google image search links to it as it often just takes you to a general page.

Primamadonna · 07/12/2017 06:48

YANBU !
I think the idea behind it is sound - but it's just all too much. I deleted the app as I found time slipping away as I looked at yet another picture of something I would never do or make. It occasionally made me feel inspired and simultaneously inadequate.

And I don't care if 4 people have the same pins, but Pinterest seem to want to tell you this scintillating fact via email.

Ansumpasty · 07/12/2017 07:03

I love it but I only use it for home inspiration things and don't ever click on the links, just pin the pictures or inspiration. It's fun for when you are moving house or decorating!

Melony6 · 07/12/2017 07:05

I find it so annoying when stuff isn't for sale - you see the perfect scarf/ jacket etc but it's a pic only.

I've looked up and you exclude things by putting - before them eg paintings of ducks -pinterest
means pinterest paintings are not there. Or you add + before a word to include it in all searches.

JeNeSuisPasVotreMiel · 07/12/2017 07:13

It's bloody frustrating.
I spent ages on there last night looking for a particular kind of wallpaper.
It doesn't matter if you find the one you want, you'll never be able to have it, because clicking on the picture just takes you down a rabbit hole of unrelated pages until you're looking at folding chairs or summat.

PasstheStarmix · 07/12/2017 07:34

I found the perfect colour for my hall, picture took me to the exact colour reference...maybe I had a pin whack!! Shock

DianaT1969 · 07/12/2017 08:31

Agreed. i hate it for being closed to browsers, yet it optomises its website images to come top in every search result. That isn't accidental. Litter my search results and then ban me from actually seeing anything unless I log in. Surprised google allows it. It's worse that websites with pop ups.

redexpat · 07/12/2017 09:11

Im with you op its a very pretty rabbit hole!

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 07/12/2017 09:17

It's like FB in as much as it's what you make it. No point using Pinterest to find things for sale, that's not what it's designed for. It's an online scrapbook or mood board, and for that purpose it works very well.

Ikabod · 07/12/2017 09:20

I like Pinterest for craft ideas, but it's a bugger for lifestyle stuff. The parenting pins let me know I'm doing a shit job with my two girls and the diet/ fitness ones let me know I'm a fat useless slob. I'm sure I only looked at one or two recipes/yoga things/ parenting pins but they're like a rash all over my home screen now.
I totally agree about the images/links thing though - I want to visit the website directly, not through the chicanes of Pinterest!

IceniLacuna · 07/12/2017 09:23

Yanbu I hate it too

SoupDragon · 07/12/2017 09:23

I love Pinterest for saving things I want to remember but I dont see it as being useful for searching for stuff really. Often you can't get to the original website anyway.

CaptainHammer · 07/12/2017 09:27

I do like using Pinterest but when I want to use it, having to go to the app or whatever just to see one photo is annoying.

Bluelonerose · 07/12/2017 09:29

I don't get it either
You find the perfect thing you want click on the link to find it's something on there.

Thanks for the pp telling me how to exclude it from a search. Think Google are missing a tip there with their settings.

LoveYouTimMinchin · 07/12/2017 09:29

Yanbu. I'll never join that ridiculous site just on principle. They're never going to blackmail me to join thank you very much! Remember when Mumsnet tried to stop people browsing for a few weeks? There was outrage and everyone compared it to Pinterest.

Gingernaut · 07/12/2017 09:31

I hate Pinterest when I'm looking for something specific.

The number of times I found what appeared to be the perfect thing, but it's an image that's years out of date, on someone's Pinterest board and it's nol longer available.

Whatever I end up looking for, I end up Googling "-Pinterest" and it still throws up Pinterest matches.

TheClaws · 07/12/2017 09:32

I dislike it for its overall emptiness. It’s just curated images really, when what I actually want is information. I only end up frustrated.

TakeThatFuckingDressOffNow · 07/12/2017 18:48

I HATE IT - Bind weed exactly the right way to describe it. I hate getting directed there from google can’t get out. It’s soooo annoying!!!
