To think it's not ok to park like this

We've recently moved and it appears parking around here is a catastrofuck. Luckily we're not part of the melee as we're one of the few houses with a drive and off street parking. I walk a lot though and I have an almost 2 year old and am 39 weeks pregnant. Very soon I'll be schlepping a double buggy up and down these pavements and almost every dropped kerb is blocked by a car. I'm annoyed that I'll be having to bump my babies onto the road to get past cars. I mean look at this prick, talk about Park-It-Like-You-Stole-it. You'd be able to see fuck all trying to pull out of that junction.

I appreciate there is little parking on this road but I reckon they'd find a legal space if they were prepared to walk for 10 or 15 minutes so it's laziness.

What can I do? I saw some You are Parked Like a Cunt stickers that you can pop on to the drivers window to let them know. If you complain to the council would they send some traffic wardens out? They'd make a killing. I don't want to immediately piss off the new neighbours but do want to address it somehow.

Desperation doesn't matter - it's illegal and very dangerous! No way would I leave it. It's not just a little bit of 'squashing in'

TBH these cares on news don’t look as bad as in the photographs here

But the council have no powers to stop this, it’s down to the police

This happens on my street, which means you can’t see to pull out the junction and neither can oncoming traffic as you meet head to head because you’re now driving on the wrong side of the road. I would feel not sympathy if it was smashed into.

I'm glad people mostly agree. I took this picture at about 10:30 this morning and it was there most of the day, so not just overnight when it's quiet. There are cars parked this badly all the time. It must be a nightmare for wheelchairs and mobility scooters.

Just push your double buggy through whatever gap is there. Not your fault if they end up with a massive scratch down all the panels of their car is it?

Oooh OP are we neighbours? Do you live in a town beginning with H.?

Parking is like this on my road but fortunately only during school drop off and pick up when it's a nightmare.

Parked in bends, corners, double parked.

It's not just pedestrians who suffer. Try pulling out of that junction in the OP's picture in a car You've got no chance of seeing what's coming.

In my experience though the police will say it's a council matter and the council will say it's a police matter.

Nope town doesn't start with H.

Did you not check what parking was like before buying/renting the house? Im sure this isn't a recent thing. Surely checking to see if the neighbours are arseholes is part of the research before you spend out on the expensive process of moving?

Oysterbabe · 06/12/2017 13:43

We knew that we'd be able to park so didn't think much more of it. It seems to me that the neighbours are the ones that should have checked out the parking situation before moving in as they're the ones parked illegally.

@Pixiedust

There's always someone snarky on here with the "did you not check before moving" comment. Do you drive up and down all the streets in your area before moving in? And things can change over time as well, it's not the OP's responsibility that others can be selfish like this.

Rachel what does, of course it’s an Audi, mean?

And PS it’s a Mercedes actually Hmm

Gin Well yes! Duh! Hmm Its common sense really isn't it? Particularly if buying. Perhaps the situation with parking was less of an issue when the neighbours moved in Oyster? You have my sympathy, but it was down to you to research before moving there unfortunately!

Worse for wheelchair users.

That car isn't just parked stupidly, it's parked illegally.

That looks just like my street. We live in student-ville and they all own cars, so each house has about 4 cars and there is no off-street parking. It's a nightmare.

Report
SteX · 06/12/2017 15:49

As a wheelchair user shit like this prevents me getting out the car. Twunts parking in the disabled bay outside home leave me waiting for them to go (No BB etc) Don't get me started on disabled bays at supermarkets etc. Everyone has an excuse, feels their excuse is valid. Inconsiderate, self-entitled twunts.

Oh God one person does that where I live , forcing you to walk into the road
It's made worse as they have a child seat in the car so should know better

Let the council know. FWIW it may take a few of you to make a nuisance of yourselves for them to do anything.

People park like this all the time around here, I'm fine 80% of the time but when my sciatica is flared up I need those dropped kerbs and raised bumps (where they level off with the kerb) you inconsiderate arseholes! Angry

Only yesterday the bus got stuck in a bus lane because some knib decided he'd not only drive it it at peak times, he'd then park on double yellow lines and nip to the shop on the highstreet. 🙈

If I were a traffic warden I'd make a killing with the parking / driving I witness.

TBH we still would have bought the house even if we'd twigged the parking situation. It's an annoyance but for me a relatively mild one; we can park, I'm able bodied and can cope. Doesn't mean I forfeit the right to be annoyed by it and try and do something about it.
