To suspect there are more sellers than buyers on Etsy?

Nobody I know has ever bought anything off Etsy. Do people just look at it to nick ideas and get an idea of how to price their own crafts? I'm asking because people keep telling me to list my own stuff there as it's selling well locally, but I'm not convinced it's worth the time, so wondering what other people's thoughts/experience is?

I always buy stuff off etsy and i have my own shop there too. Sales have gone absolutely BONKERS since november - i get roughly 20+ sales every day I'm struggling to keep up to be honest!!

But yes there are people on there who do steal other people ideas aswell which isn't great but just ensure you watermark everything

Etsy is a market place for hand made items, craft supplies and vintage. It is not same as Ebay at all.

Etsy fees work out about 11% out of the sold item price, it is a lot cheaper for selling than Ebay or Amazon. And never mind NOTH who take 25% + VAT per item sold.

Etsy has worked really well for me and I enjoy running my shop there. It is a shame it's not that well know in the UK.

I'm much better informed than when I started this thread, thank you. It seems that the decision to sell successfully on Etsy is also a decision to do other social media, find out about tags and stats and be realistic about how much time I want to spend making stuff. It's quite a change from pootling around at home and being chuffed when I need to take more stock down to my local shop!

Inspiring to hear about mner's thriving businesses and lovely to know people are buying handmade crafts too.
