To think this is really inconvenient ?

So national grid are replacing the gas pipes on my street and in my home.. ( why don't people just stick to the saying if it's not broken don't fix it!) so today is 'my appointment' for them to come and disconnect my gas to do this. So I had to allow them in at 8am this morning ( I told them to come back at 9 as I said I had breakfast and kids to get off at school) so they came and disconnected it and now I have to wait all evening between 4pm-8pm for them to restore my gas supply. So they could come at any point whilst I'm cooking and I will have to cook tea ( gas cupboard is in my kitchen next to my cooker in a cupboard!)
So now my kids will have to eat their tea whilst having strangers come in and out of the house. It's annoyed me! And we have had no hot water all day!
Am I being unreasonable to think this is inconvenient and unacceptable ?

Incredulous. You don’t want workmen in your house as it makes you anxious, you don’t like your routine disrupted and you don’t trust anyone to help you.

No-one particularly likes their routine disrupted or workmen in their house but you just have to deal with it. How do you cope with life on a daily basis....Work? Relationships? Children? Life must be impossible for you.

Unfinishedkitchen · 04/12/2017 21:34

OP I’m going to make some assumptions here. Correct me if I’m wrong.

  1. English isn’t your first language. You didn’t grow up in this culture where having workmen in the house is not an issue?
  2. You suffer from anxiety or some other challenge?
3.Your DH is unhelpful. You have one but he appears to be absent from this story. You have a bunch of young kids, no help and not much money. This is one of the reasons why you seem so easily overwhelmed by such a minor issue.
Justmuddlingalong · 04/12/2017 21:35

To be honest, you didn't stick to the timescale either. Swings and roundabouts.

PuppyMonkey · 04/12/2017 21:51

Flowers OP - sounds so like you've had a crap day. You'll look back and laugh at it one day maybe? Confused

Hope they get it fixed early tomorrow, FWIW I think it's a bit off for them to leave you with no gas overnight. Wouldn't be surprised if they turn up shortly you know, be prepared.

They offered to send someone tonight. You said no because it would be too late and you’d rather enjoy moaning about it.

Get a fucking grip. It’s ONE day without gas, you still have electricity so can boil a kettle for hot water unless you’re going to drip feed that you don’t have a kettle

Nobody is going to die without heating for one night.

I speak to people like you in my job (customer service). People who will do absolutely nothing to help themselves, get cross when things aren’t how they think they should be, get ranty at people who try to help them, refuse to accept even a glimmer of possibility that they could be wrong. And do you know what? Nobody bends over backwards to help people like that. People do what they have to and are polite but they don’t go the extra mile for someone so unpleasant.

darkcloudlooming · 04/12/2017 21:58

@WhimsicalTart do you realise how sick your comment was? You must be one evil individual to wish that on small children. As for the self centred twat comment well that doesn't bother me but saying things like you is disturbing

darkcloudlooming · 04/12/2017 22:02

@Glumglowworm I didn't say no.

Darkcloud - can you answer several posters points about your DH and why he can't step up to release you from all the tasks?

@arethereanyleftatall not everyone has '20 parents' to ask to take their kids to school' it's not like that round here.. I wouldn't trust them to take my child to school simple as. Anyway I've had every single one tell me I'm unreasonable and such a horrid person and that my gas should blow up... ok I get it now... think I'll just leave the thread now... no sympathy on net mums

PuppyMonkey · 04/12/2017 22:09

Glowworm, she didn't say no to someone coming tonight, she said they offered but it could be late and they'd ring before. But they haven't rung so she's assuming they're not coming.

Justmuddlingalong · 04/12/2017 22:09

This is Mumsnet, darlin'.

PuppyMonkey · 04/12/2017 22:10

darkcloudlooming · 04/12/2017 22:10

@Justmuddlingalong sorry it was a typo 'darling'

( such a cringeworthy word)

dontbesillyhenry · 04/12/2017 22:11

You'd prob get sympathy in abundance on netmums along with 'r u okay Hun?' galore

Glumglowworm · 04/12/2017 22:11

Ok I apologise for misunderstanding that point

darkcloudlooming · 04/12/2017 22:11

@PuppyMonkey

Apology accepted Grin

PuppyMonkey · 04/12/2017 22:12

Was joking OP.

Floralnomad · 04/12/2017 22:13

I’m not buying this at all , my elderly mother had to have her gas turned off last year for over 36 hours due to a leak at the bottom of her drive on the road and the gas men provided her with fan heaters to use ( new ones that they then leave with you ) so I’m sure if you have young children in the house they would have done the same OP .

Roussette · 04/12/2017 22:16

I don't think your gas should blow you up or you're horrible, I just think you have to put things into perspective. This is coming from someone (me) who has NO gas and regular electricity cuts which means no internet, no heat, no cooking, no light. This is such a short time OP and in no time you'll have your gas back.
