To think this is really inconvenient ?

So national grid are replacing the gas pipes on my street and in my home.. ( why don't people just stick to the saying if it's not broken don't fix it!) so today is 'my appointment' for them to come and disconnect my gas to do this. So I had to allow them in at 8am this morning ( I told them to come back at 9 as I said I had breakfast and kids to get off at school) so they came and disconnected it and now I have to wait all evening between 4pm-8pm for them to restore my gas supply. So they could come at any point whilst I'm cooking and I will have to cook tea ( gas cupboard is in my kitchen next to my cooker in a cupboard!)
So now my kids will have to eat their tea whilst having strangers come in and out of the house. It's annoyed me! And we have had no hot water all day!
Am I being unreasonable to think this is inconvenient and unacceptable ?

This thread made me giggle so much OP. Would a gas explosion have been less convenient, as might have happened if they didn't replace the pipes? Then your precious snowflakes would have something to talk about while they have their tea. What on earth did you expect the utility company to do?!

And then I saw that they put their rubbish in your bin. I think they may have contravened your human rights.

BleakBetty · 05/12/2017 10:44

When your boiler breaks down in mid-winter and you have to bathe/feed and heat up two DC for eight weeks before your landlord replaces it...that’s inconvenient!

A few hours without gas is nothing. Get over it, I’m sorry but YABU

never have I seen someone so put out to be reconnected to their gas supply. Do you spend everyday finding a molehill to enlarge because if you do you must be shattered?

Roussette · 05/12/2017 12:05

This is hilarious. Those awful 'workmen' having to eat during a 14 hour shift - how dare they? Did you offer them a coffee or is that one step too far?!

I'd love you to be subjected to 36 hours without any power whatsoever which is what I've had - you'd implode into a bubbling mess of annoyance!

Chill. And please be nicer to these people who keep utilities up and working.

darkcloudlooming · 05/12/2017 12:10

@Roussette why should I clean up after these people? My husband doesn't go to work and expect people to clear away his rubbish.

darkcloudlooming · 05/12/2017 12:12

Oh and if wasn't just food rubbish it was their fag ends and packets.. me and my husband don't smoke.. I never have so I don't want them in my bin.. sorry maybe you all just sit downs and accept any type of behaviour and are happy to put up with anything.

Jeez you seriously care as to what's in your bin.

Who has time to actually care that much?

My husband doesn't go to work and expect people to clear away his rubbish.

So he cleans out his own bins at work then does he?

BishBoshBashBop · 05/12/2017 12:17

sorry maybe you all just sit downs and accept any type of behaviour and are happy to put up with anything.

The type of behaviour where people put stuff in bins? I mean how very dare they Hmm

zukiecat · 05/12/2017 12:18

Try going without any heating or hot water for years, then come back as say it's inconvenient

Just wrap up warm if it's cold, or if you ca afford it take the kids out for tea

Sorry, but YABVU

LakieLady · 05/12/2017 12:19

YABU, but I appreciate the heads up because they're doing ours early in the new year. We'll just go and have dinner at the pub and leave them to it.

Of course, they could have done it last December, when Virgin Media had all the roads dug up and we had drilling from 8am to gone 7pm. And they've just repainted all the white lines on the roads, which will be dug up again in a few weeks!

Originalfoogirl · 05/12/2017 12:19

You aren’t cleaning up after them, they put the rubbish in the bin. Hardly “scally behaviour”. What an horrifically snobbish thing to say. Our rubbish bins are emptied once a month, I’m sure you’ll cope with a few takeaway cartons and fag ends. Which, incidentally, only became a problem when you couldn’t moan about still not having any gas today.

Maybe next time you’ll realise what when you treat people the way you would want to be treated, then that comes back to you in spades. You have shown absolutely no respect for the people who’s job it is to keep you safe. Expected them to work late into the night so your precious darlings didn’t feel a teensy bit cold (who the hell lives in an old house without a spare fan heater and a couple of hot water bottles???) And now complain they had the audacity to clear up after themselves. I’m bloody sure there are many workmen out there who would treat you with contempt and not have come back at 22.00 or cleared up their rubbish.

Roussette · 05/12/2017 12:20

Roussette why should I clean up after these people? My husband doesn't go to work and expect people to clear away his rubbish

I'll answer.

Because they're doing a horrible job dealing with people like you in unsociable hours. Because they've been doing a 14 hours shift. Because it is not important and because it really doesn't matter.

Your life must be extremely difficult if you can get worked up about such a minor daft thing.

If I'd bothered to look in the bin, I would've seen that and thought "silly sods, oh well, at least they didn't just drop it on my lawn"

But I'm a glass half full person and I appreciate the work that people do to keep me safe.

What do you think of cleaners, dustbin men, utility company staff in general? Not a lot I bet. Get off your high horse

YABU

Originalfoogirl · 05/12/2017 12:22

and accept any type of behaviour and are happy to put up with anything.

On the contrary, I am not at all willing to put up with snobbery and disrespect. Those are my boundaries. Workies doing the job they are paid for, to ensure my safety with fairly minimal convenience, that’s what I’d expect.

Originalfoogirl · 05/12/2017 12:23

“Inconvenience” obviously.

snash12 · 05/12/2017 12:25

I worry about people like you and what would happen in a real crisis / emergency.

InspMorse · 05/12/2017 12:26

Dear God, talk about exaggerating problems. You were given notice I presume? How about compromising a bit? Your DC will live I'm sure.

Roussette · 05/12/2017 12:27

sorry maybe you all just sit downs and accept any type of behaviour and are happy to put up with anything

Nope. I will not tolerate people who are rude to, and about, service staff who are just doing their job. Which is why I've responded to this thread

InspMorse · 05/12/2017 12:28

why should I clean up after these people?

These people? Have they each got four heads? You sound dreadful.

PortiaCastis · 05/12/2017 12:32

Snobbery is an awful trait and says more about the snob than those they're looking down on

GloriaGutbucket · 05/12/2017 12:42

They must think ppl don't have lives

Well some people whose houses have a gas explosion don't.

darkcloudlooming · 05/12/2017 12:43

Just to clear things up.. it wasn't just my house that they came back to put the gas on was it.. they told me 4-8.. I made sure I was back for 4 and cancelled all my plans because they told me 4-8. They came out at 22:00 not just got me but other people's who didn't have theirs put back on. As for snobbery.. I am far from a snob.. if you knew me in real life.. you would know I'm no snob. We were only told a day before that our house was being done in Monday.. that's it! We were not given a weeks notice like eve one says. We got a letter saying works would be done I. The next few weeks but different houses where done in different days, like my neighbour had hers done on a Saturday which I think was good for her because they are out all week at work so would have been hard for her getting that done. Why is it so hard for people to understand my point? Not everyone can just stop their lives like that. Not everyone has days off they can use for things like this. I was making a point that they don't consider anyone. And everyone just blew my opinion into a massive accusation that I'm a snob. As for the rubbish.. I'll say again.. we already have to take trips to the tip because of the limited space we have, if they put the rubbish in the correct recycling bins I wouldn't have an issue with that but to dump it in my grey bin and expect me to sort it out is wrong!

Natsku · 05/12/2017 12:44

If you think that's inconvenient... we had weeks with a temporary water pipe running through the basement window (which then had to be left open of course for the pipe to fit through) and then on one day the temporary pipe literally froze and we had no water at all for most of the day and when we did get it back dirt had got into the system so the water wasn't drinkable until we had let the tap run for hours. We also had half a week when our driveway was blocked by a massive hole in the ground where they were digging to put the new pipes down so we had to get in and our of our garden by squeezing through the hedge.

They did "accidentally" leave the temporary water pipe in the garden for us to keep though to say sorry, will make a good hosepipe I guess.

Willow2017 · 05/12/2017 12:45
