Oh FFS! Recommend to me a child's thermometer that actually functions properly!

I seem to be caught in a cycle of ones that are utter shite!

All I want it to do:

-Take the temperature quickly without me having to take any of DC's clothes off.

  • Display that temperature on an illuminated screen that I can read at night without having to turn on any lights.
  • Keep that display showing for more than a nanosecond so that I can work out if DS is just a bit warm or whether I need to give him some calpol.

The latest one I have been using has attracted my ire by suddenly deciding to switch to displaying in Fahrenheit rather than Celsius. No doubt either DS or I have pressed its buttons in a particular way to cause it to do so but I have zero inclination to find and read the instruction book at 3.30am to work out how to switch it back. I don't work in F so therefore have no idea if 100.4 is a little or a lot over normal temp. Stupid fucking machine!Angry

Braun thermoscan 7. £40 rrp but worth it. Lights up and very easy to use. Kids comply no problem. Don't get a forehead scanner they are inaccurate (we had boots one and it reads anything from 37 to 42 when Braun is steadfast reading 38.5. Quite a difference)

Thanks nurse. I had febrile convulsions as a baby because I got too hot.

Febrile convulsions are pretty rare. Of course anyone with a child that has had febrile convulsions would have been given specific medical advice on what to do if a fever occurs.

My Mum was a nurse. No advance warning or crystal ball to help her predict i was going to have febrile convulsions when I was months old.

If you got hot enough to be fitting though surely that would have been apparent without a (likely inaccurate) thermometer reading?
Any time my kids have had a temp they have had hot extremities and flushed cheeks Confused

We have the Braun thermoscan and it's great. It beeps once if temp ok, twice if slightly elevated and 4 times if really feverish, therefore no issues in the dark!

It's been particularly good for persuading dd she's fine and can go to school, when she's feeling sorry for herself and trying to get a day off that she doesn't need! Grin

£30 mothercare digital job works a treat for me.

It was the 60s. My Mum was also of the "oh it will be obvious - especially to me as a nurse" frame of mind. Until I got too hot and started fitting and had to go to hospital.

I hate my Braun one. I always go back to the £10 Mothercare one. Temp in 30 seconds. Colour codes and remembers last temp. Most accurate one I've used in 10 years.
