To make a bottle this way or will I poison the baby?

DD 12m still has one feed at 4am. I usually just get the premixed bottles and dump it straight in. Ocado decided to cancel my order today and I'm out sooo...

Can I stick 4oz of boiling water in a thermos, 4 oz of cold water in a water bottle and combine it all together (hot first) and mix? I just can't see DD waiting for me to cool a bottle down in the middle of the night if I use all hot. DH firmly convinced I'll poison her. Who is right?

All my dithering about making a bottle and when we came down this morning the cats had killed a mouse and dragged it in...only I'm not the one who found it. The baby picked it up first. It makes me feel sick to even think about it. 🤢

Can you not just give cows milk at 12 months?

SkaPunkPrincess · 02/12/2017 08:21

From about 6 months I used to boil the kettle mix the milk with about 2 oz boiling water then top up with cold straight from the tap 😕.
As I understand it the danger is the bacteria in the milk not the water.

MotherOfDragons22 · 02/12/2017 08:39

Op has explained why she wont be giving cows milk. Shut up about it!

LynetteScavo · 02/12/2017 08:48

ShockSadShock @ the mouse!!!

I'm surprised none has said just stop the bottle in the night at 12 months. Wink

raviolidreaming · 02/12/2017 08:57

I like the think the mouse's dying words were, 'just give cows milk' Wink

Please STOP advising people to drop formula without knowing their individual circumstances! Drives me mad people are so quick to advise doing this as it's quickest and easiest but many little ones aren't ready to move on at 1. It's about when their nutritional needs are fully being met by food rather than a date in the calendar! My DS is 17 months and I'm constantly met by surprise and derision if it comes up that he has formula morning and night,he doesn't eat a varied or inclusive enough diet yet to not have the back up of getting his vitamins etc guaranteed by his milk. We are trying but he had major gag reflex issues so he's taking a bit longer to get there with his diet.

Cows milk from 12 months. And how the fuck was a baby unsupervised for long enough to pick up a dead mouse..? mice carry some awful diseases.

LolaTheDarkdestroyer · 02/12/2017 10:27

Ok maybe not cows milk then but still the mouse that's bad.

VileyRose · 02/12/2017 10:29

I just put water in and add the powder I the night. No hot water.

Shiggle · 02/12/2017 11:08

Lolathedarkdestroyer She wasn't unsupervised fgs. We have a big open plan kitchen that is all Baby proofed. I was making porridge and she was a few feet away playing with toys. Her back was turned to me and when she got up and turned around I realised she was holding s dead mouse! I don't hover on top of her at all time. I didn't expect a dead animal to mixed in with the toys. I don't think that's an unreasonable assumption. The cat is just turning one so I guess beginning to hunt. Previously he hadn't.

You horrible neglectful mother. Just drop her a social services now with a carton of cows milk and a the dead mouse in an evidence bag. Wink

Put the cat on the naughty step

TrinitySquirrel · 02/12/2017 11:23

"Did he eat it?" [santa]

That's made my day! 😂

TrinitySquirrel · 02/12/2017 11:25

And fuck off with the advice about cows milk. Formula is still perfectly fine for them as long as they're not jumping up percentiles into hulk sized babies.

Go and gargle with it or something.

QuestionableMouse · 02/12/2017 11:27

My nephew with CMPA loves oat milk. Might be another option for you?

Pud2 · 02/12/2017 11:29

Very funny about the mouse OP! Don't listen to the judgemental posts about this. Absolutely nothing wrong with your parenting and I'm sure no harm was done. Children have done revolting things since time begun and have survived to tell the tale!

bellweather · 02/12/2017 11:31

Lol to the mouse op

If it makes you feel any better I caught my 10 month old tucking into the cat food this morning Blush

Pud2 · 02/12/2017 11:34

Love it Bellweather! Hope you've rushed around with a gallon of disinfectant and undertaken a stomach pump Grin........

LolaTheDarkdestroyer · 02/12/2017 12:33

Yes hilarious about the mouse the diseases can actually kill. I have a cat so have had the odd dead mouse but I always come down first and check there's nothing there.
