Not an AIBU - posting for traffic.

Is Jack Wills popular amongst 13 year olds? Specifically girls in this case.

Lol, yes I know what you mean about Primark Confused

Thinking about it, dd bought a JW hoody at the start of this year and wears it loads however it does have discreet branding. I think she would wear another one if I were to buy one for her. Dd2 less so but then she does seem to think she lives in the Bronx rather than a sleepy village in Wiltshire.

BikeRunSki · 02/12/2017 10:09

I think cool brands vary in different parts of the country/world.

Katz · 02/12/2017 10:12

My 12 nearly 13 year old isn't into JW but has requested adidas Nike Calvin Klein or a primark gift card so she can buy her own stuff.

Nocabbageinmyeye · 02/12/2017 10:13

My 12 year old loves Jack Wills, definitely not had it's day in this house. I love them because while they are branded they ate hood quality and not tacky, some of her friends are into ellesse stuff and it's rotten altogether so hoping she sticks to JW

Sparklingbrook · 02/12/2017 10:20

The ongoing problem is that they can desperately want/need a certain brand then a month later decide it has had it's day and they can't possibly be seen wearing it.

Teenagers are fickle. Angry

BrendaSmith56 · 02/12/2017 10:21

No!
Top Shop
Pull and Bear
Urban Outfitters
Boo Hoo
Pretty Little Things

Seem to be the parcels arriving here from online shopping.

Sparklingbrook · 02/12/2017 10:23

I feel so old Brenda, I have only heard of 2 on your list. Sad

KaliforniaDreamz · 02/12/2017 10:24

I saw lots of teen girls in Hollister recently.. (London)

ChocolateWombat · 02/12/2017 10:26

Hard to say really. As others say, depends on region and school.

Some schools love to go for the 'preppy' look to scream independent education and others for a more sports brand look or whatever. And even within these 'themes' the popular brand of the moment changes and whilst some people will be at the forefront of the new thing, others will be catching in and loving it as it finishes for others.

Us oldies - what do we really know? I'd ask them if you want to be sure and if they are the kind of kids who brand will really matter to. And pay in cash and get a cash receipt, not gift receipt so they can return it if they don't like it and go elsewhere - a gift receipt means you're stuck with a gift voucher in return, which isn't great if you don't like the brand.

TealStar · 02/12/2017 10:26

Ah yes... Pretty Little Thing and Boo Hoo. Also Missguided. I think theyre all quite tacky and rank but dd1 loves them.

Sparklingbrook · 02/12/2017 10:28

Am I missing out having only boys? Grin

GreyMorning · 02/12/2017 10:29

I'm 34 and I really like their clothing, but I'm not very trendy 😂 DH has a pair of trousers from JW that are the male equivalent of a wonder bra for the bum!

They seem to make good quality staples, I love their leggings for lounging about, I've bought some great dresses and shirts and yes, I even have a hoody 😎

In conclusion I'd say if I like it, probably not trendy.

Sparklingbrook · 02/12/2017 10:30

Oh no, hang on LOOK

sparkling no not missing out at all

CiderwithBuda · 02/12/2017 10:43

As others have said depends on area and school I think. I'd maybe go for something not too branded. DS is 16 and still likes some of it - got a t-shirt and swimming shorts last summer.

I've bought him some track pants this year. They do nice pjs I think.

ChocolateWombat · 02/12/2017 11:04

Agree PJs might be a good bet - would be good quality and perhaps branding not quite so important as worn at home.

Teens are hard to buy for if fussy. Re brands, best not to guess but ask and if you want to give surprise go for gist which doesn't have branding.

Lots of people I know are buying Exploding Kittens for teens - it's a game which apparanely is big at the moment.

newmum7369 · 02/12/2017 21:53

Oh wow thanks for all of your responses!

Surprised that teens are into brands like Ellesse - I'm nearly 30 and I can remember having an Ellesse tracksuit and thinking I was really cool (I wasn't). Isn't it funny how things go around like that.

Given all your replies I think I'll steer clear, it's fairly expensive stuff and whilst I don't necessarily think they won't like it, if it's not something that's super popular they might not 'get it' if that makes sense. As I said my sister doesn't really indulge them in fashion brands so they might not be too aware if not every other person at school is wearing it.

I'm 33 and 85% of my wardrobe is Jack Wills, including socks!

Over time though I've stopped buying the ones with huge Jack Wills plastered over the front and have ones now with the tiny logos. Their checked shirts are just the best!

Gaudeamus · 03/12/2017 06:27

If you live close by could you offer to take them shopping and get an item they really like?
