To think my life is too precarious

This is a financial post- I have 2 dcs and rent in the south of England. I have a ‘good’ job but our basic outgoings- rent, bills etc are 2k a month and my income covers that. But it doesn’t cover food & living and my DPs salary covers that and he doesn’t earn as much. Our main outgoing is ridiculously expensive rent to be honest. If one of us lost our job, we would be screwed.
Aibu to think our life is very precarious?
I don’t sleep some nights worrying about it- we struggle now and it’s mostly to do with the bloody rent which is £1200 a month.
The solution is obviously to move- we couldn’t buy a house here hence the renting etc. I lie awake thinking about how we could feasibly move but my whole life is here.

Yes sorry TV is £12.
Its Green Flag breakdown which is £7.

I have just got my new water bill this morning, its gone up to £31.

Council tax is single person, paid over 12 months.

I have solar panels, but not many. Also its a new build so it never really drops below 18 on the thermostat when the heating is off.

No you're not, and I suspect for most people public transport would be more expensive.

But my point is - it is still worth checking, it's not daft at all.

Especially if you look at all the options as I suggested - which included looking for a job closer to home.

Tax, fuel, maintenance, MOT, insurance - and eventually car replacement. It all adds up! If you're a 2 car household so have a car available for either party with a bit of planning, then it might well be possible to drop one car - if not immediately, then at the point when the car needs to be replaced.

In my city, an annual bus pass paid monthly is £42 a month. That's cheaper than my tax + insurance, so I'd save immediately on fuel and maintenance and a bit on just the tax and insurance.

I think it's worth considering - looking for a job that can be done without a second car in the household.
