To think that wearing a strappy top does not mean you are half naked?

A colleague today was judging how some women dressed, and had a rant about young women being half naked. When I clarified what she meant, she talked about women wearing strappy tops. I don't consider showing your arms and shoulders as being half naked.

This:

* You're quite right, OP, she's well off on her fractions. Check her expenses claim.*

Unless she has VERY large arms and shoulders.

I know what she means, I'm booby, and I feel like I look semi naked in strappy tops. I wouldn't if I had a smaller upper body.

However your colleagues mistake is critiquing how other people look, that's simply not her business.

I would consider that half naked in this weather but not the summer months Confused

InspMorse and Splintz. Wasn't a tangent, just an observation based on a posters dislike seeing a breast or cleavage on show. Calm down. Not everything is an agenda.

Bare armpit potentially dripping on food

What? I don’t know anyone who’s armpits drip randomly unless they are doing an extremely strenuous workout. And I’d assume if the woman had issues where her armpits dripped normally she’d be wearing something to cover it up, Confused

I often describe people out on the town at night as 'half dressed'. I myself used to go out half dressed in my youth.

I would just avoid the colleague who is prone to rants and not engage TBH.

Beeziekn33ze · 30/11/2017 07:45

What prescribed uniform would your friend like everyone to wear?!

Nettletheelf · 30/11/2017 07:53

It reminds me of the kind of remark slightly pervy middle aged men used to make when I used to go clubbing with my friends. Oooh they’re half naked etc etc., said in a mock disapproving but appreciative way.

Women would say, oh, won’t you catch your death/get a chill on your kidneys?

Nettletheelf · 30/11/2017 07:54

So your colleague is behaving like a pervy middle aged man.

wtffgs · 30/11/2017 08:12

Middle-aged, norky woman here. I've never been able to wear straps tops because of generous boobage even when much younger.

I do feel slightly envious of those who can wear such stuff. It looks cool and comfortable on hot days. It doesn't remotely annoy or disturb me. I have better things than do than police what other women wear.

Plus, there are enough buggers out there already loudly criticising women for being overdressed/underdressed or simply existing Angry

Gileswithachainsaw · 30/11/2017 08:14

Meh

I live in vest tops.

Not been arrested for indecent exposure yet.

They should mind their own business

museumum · 30/11/2017 08:19

I always feel naked in a strappy top with my chubby white arm flesh on show.
But I see lightly tanned and slim women all over desssed like this and they look great - all of the women going to work in Spain and Italy and southern France seem to wear dresses that show shoulder and do not look “unprofessional”. It’s me trying to cover up and therefore overheating that looks a mess while they’re cool and calm.
