To take DS to soft play if I am ill?

He is fine. I have suspected hand foot and mouth.

He is a 16 month bundle of energy and tends to go a little stir crazy if he stays indoors all day. The weather is not great for the park.

Would IBU to take him to soft play?

No, you are just as capable of passing the infection on as he would be if he was infected.

Discotits · 29/11/2017 13:19

I wouldn’t do that. Let him bounce on the bed or something.

gunsandbanjos · 29/11/2017 13:20

Of course YABU.

MrsStinkey · 29/11/2017 13:20

Hand foot and mouth is non exclusive as it has no incubation period so YANBU at all. Take your little one and have a nice time!

TheVanguardSix · 29/11/2017 13:21

Well yes in that you're presumably infectious. Do you have blisters and are they dry/healed? You should be fine if this is the case but if this is a recent illness/diagnosis, you should prevent spread by not going to the soft play centre. Tough, I know. Energetic toddlers are so hard to handle when we're ill. Has your little one had it already?

Mittens1969 · 29/11/2017 13:27

Oh dear, that's hard. I remember what it was like when my DDs were younger, they used to get so stir crazy if they had to stay indoors; it was very hard to handle if I wasn't well. Now I can let them watch a DVD or have turns on the iPad.

But I wouldn't go to soft play if you have hand, foot and mouth, sorry.

ThanksHope you get well soon, OP.

Shoxfordian · 29/11/2017 13:30

If you're infectious then you shouldn't really go

Why would you want to go somewhere so noisy anyway if you're sick?

Thistledew · 29/11/2017 13:30

I had a fever Sunday/Monday. Blisters started coming up on my hands last night and are still increasing.

I'm not sure whether DS had it mildly last week. He had a fever and an upset tummy last week. I put it down to the same stomach bug that DH had had the week before but I did also notice that he had a couple of very small mouth ulcers for a day or two.

I would love to curl up in bed and feel sorry for myself, but entertaining him at home seems harder than pottering down to the soft play and letting him tire himself out for an hour!

And passing an infectious disease to kids and their families in time for Christmas. YABU.

Somethingveryrandom · 29/11/2017 13:36

YABU my 9 month old DD is ill with this at the moment. Unless you are sure you are not contagious then don't go.

MrsMotherHen · 29/11/2017 13:40

YABU

ILiveUnderYourBed · 29/11/2017 13:45

Please don't go. We ended up in hospital when my dc picked this up. It's so very contagious.

Kickassname · 29/11/2017 13:45

Please stay home.

Put a load of cushions/pillows/duvets on living room floor and let him roll around. (Make sure it's safe at the edges obviously.) We also had a mini ball pool and tunnel too. 2 for £15 at Argos. It was great for burning off steam at home. My dd loved this at that age. Maybe you could order next day delivery.

You are in the first week, showing symptoms (increasing symptoms too) you are supposed to stay home during this time.

YWBVU to go to soft play if infectious, please think of the rest of us. Don't be selfish.

Get well soon.

Thistledew · 29/11/2017 13:45

Ok. I thought on balance it probably was U.

We will wrap up warm and go to the park- and I can also wear gloves to reduce the risk of passing anything.

"You are in the first week, showing symptoms (increasing symptoms too) you are supposed to stay home during this time."

Public Health England doesn't advise any exclusion period for hand, foot and month. Keep away from school/work etc until the child/you feel better, but you are infectious for months afterwards via coughs and (and this is really for little ones) faeces.
