Clary - yes, my other granny (Derbyshire0 used to say 'neckLACE'.
And 'toytoise' and 'poy-it-ry'.

MrsWottinger · 18/04/2007 23:32

i'm just waiting for NQC to come along and say 'it's all dialect, the language is evolving, nothing is wrong.' subtext: 'i'm canadian and i am making it my life's work to destroy the queen's english on MN. au revoir, mes amies.'

MrsWottinger · 18/04/2007 23:32

oh, am Aitch btw. no h

Blu · 18/04/2007 23:34

She could say it Not Quite Rhyming Slang.
or
"its all a door, ain't it" (revolving / evolving"

Blu · 18/04/2007 23:34

Blu · 18/04/2007 23:34

AitchTwoOh · 19/04/2007 00:09

i know, you eejit. mind you people are still on it discussing the perils of poor neighbouring. 'turn a hose on them' being my favourite...

expatinscotland · 19/04/2007 00:16

I had never heard it said any other way besides 'aitch'.

Till I moved here.

Ambi · 20/04/2007 11:26

Oh, what is the correct way then? Aitch? that sounds wrong to me, it sounds like slang.

Ambi · 20/04/2007 11:27

But then again I don't watch adverts, sky plus......

ViscountessPetitLapin · 20/04/2007 11:27

Haitch is incorrect - it is akin to putting circles over the letter i when writing. Haitch makes me (with my South London accent) become terribly terribly snobbish!

ViscountessPetitLapin · 20/04/2007 11:33

LOL Lilymaid... I am picturing "Bambi" with a little heart over the i... very California bimbo!

Ambi · 20/04/2007 11:43

Ok I've learned something new then

chocolattegirl · 20/04/2007 12:47

Haitch doesn't bother me as much as people substituting an 'f' for 'th' ie fousand and fink, fought etc.

Now I've read this though I'll probably add it to my list of teeth-gritting moments .

ViscountessPetitLapin · 20/04/2007 12:48

chocolattegirl (are you wrapped in bits of silver, BTW) - I think "fought" is actually a word...

OP posts:
Tatties · 20/04/2007 12:52

No you are not BU - it is WRONG and it does my head in!!!

chocolattegirl · 20/04/2007 12:53

No but I'm surprised I don't look like a bar of chocolate the amount of it that I eat .

Fought is ok as in past tense of fight... fought as in I had a thought is urggh to me.

Hopeitwontbebig · 20/04/2007 12:54

He he he this is so funny, my DH gets so annoyed when people say Haitch..... look it up in the dictionary it's AITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopeitwontbebig · 20/04/2007 12:56

OK, here's another one, people who say they 'brought' something from a shop....
