To refuse to buy dp rizla when in the shop

twobabies · 18/04/2007 22:22

Heading into tesco for dinner shopping, dp shouts from car "can you get me some king size rizla when your in there", which I then didn't get.... Mainly because I am 6 mths preggers and just can't bring myself you queue up and ask for rizla/tobacco and be thinking everyone was thinking they were for me (I know its ridiculous and I shouldn't be bothered because it's not for me) and also because I HATE HATE HATE him smoking (ex smoker here) so hate buying him smoking stuff anyway.

But afterwards I felt really petty cause he then had to go back out to get some himself ie wasting petrol, time etc and I feel like I may be being unreasonable and should just stop giving a stuff...

should mention that I am very judgemental type who mentally tut tuts at pregnant women queuing up for smokes etc so this is probably the problem etc etc

couldn't you just get them and say loudly t"oh yes they are the ones HE wants"

jampot · 18/04/2007 22:25

yes unreasonable im afraid.

hunkermunker · 18/04/2007 22:27

I'd say "No, I won't assist you killing yourself, idiot" but I'm no Relate counsellor, so ignore me

twobabies · 18/04/2007 22:28

I did that the other day and shop lady looked at me like I was mad......and then asked if I was buying for the teens outside (blush)

I think part of being, and staying, an ex-smoker is thinking how awful it is, tut-tutting and hugely disapproving of it. Because if you dont, if you start to think its not that bad then you're one step closer to going back to smoking yourself. Or thats certainly how it is for me, if i can make excuses or justify it for other people then I could do it for me. So while it probably is abit petty i can totally understand it, and if its how you have to be then he'll just have to live with it!!

nallydoolally · 18/04/2007 22:31

i have been in the same boat with my dh. i hated buying smoking related items for him when pregnant so always made some comment out loud at the till, like "er...which one was it he wanted? oh yes, 25g golden virginia please. i think that's right anyway...."

It's not unreasonable - IMHO he shouldn't be smoking around a pregnant woman or children anyway. But that's just my opinion

suzycreamcheese · 18/04/2007 22:50

not really if you dont want him smoking around you...you are 6 months pregnant you are allowed to be unreasonable here and there

agree it does look shabby start for kid,mum to be in the ciggie que!!

SleepIsForTheWeak · 18/04/2007 22:51

NOT unreasonable, I have never bought my DH anything to do with his smoking, I refuse to make it easy for him!!!

twobabies · 18/04/2007 22:53

Have to say he's fab about not smoking anywhere near us, in fact he has a whole change of clothes for when he goes outside to smoke, then he cleans his teeth and washes his hands before he goes anywhere near dd so very well trained in that respect!!!!

OP posts:
pirategirl · 18/04/2007 22:56

can i ask why would he want kingsize rizlas, do people roll cigs that big? I thought they were for smokin dope.

Twinklemegan · 18/04/2007 22:59

I sympathise with you 2babies and I defo wouldn't have done it when I was obviously pregnant (he didn't ask me then thank God). I haven't been brave enough to actually refuse though because it'd only start a row.

2shoes · 18/04/2007 23:00

pirategirl i did wonder that as well

nallydoolally · 18/04/2007 23:15

yes, tres suspicious....

twobabies · 18/04/2007 23:18

not quite sure what your talking about

OP posts:
pirategirl · 18/04/2007 23:35

well if they r for dope, then i wouldnt have bought king size rizlas for my ex dh, when i was pg!!!
I can never understand how shops stock them really, when its illegal lol.

btw i am not anti dope.

twobabies · 19/04/2007 00:16

That was kind of more the reason I didn't want to buy them, how bad would that look?

I'd be bringing down a world of judgement if I saw heavily preg woman doing that

OP posts:
jampot · 19/04/2007 00:22

twobabies - its no good asking if its unreasonable if you dont give full picture. not unreasonable to not buy rizlas for dope smoking.

obimomkanobi · 19/04/2007 07:21

I smoke roll ups and I can say with absolute certainty that king size rizla are for rolling doobies.

A roll up cigarette is constructed using ordinary, standard, little rizla.

Also, if you are 6 months preggers why couldn't your DP do the shopping and thus ensure the safety of his own rizla supply??

Furrymummy · 19/04/2007 07:24

I don't think you were unreasonable - I think he was unreasonable to ask you! I sincerely hope he doesn't smoke around you - doesn't he appreciate the dangers of second hand smoke? Well done for giving up and keep up the good work.

DominiConnor · 19/04/2007 07:38

As a bloke I would say there was an extra level of unreasonableness here.
Just exactly why was an able bodied man getting a 6 month pg woman to do his fetching and carrying ?

Furrymummy · 19/04/2007 07:45

Dominic - your wife is a lucky woman!

sibble · 19/04/2007 07:51

not unreasonable, dh gave up (at last) 8 months ago but I never, ever bought him anything, duty free or from the shop. Call me mean if you like.
