To shout at the dog owner..?

I think you should be able to say something when dog owners let their dogs bother other people and jump up at them. I literally was just sat minding my own business in a secluded corner of my local park when a large muddy dog jumped up to where I was sitting and started pawing me. Now I actually really like dogs, but it does not mean I want yours dirtying my coat or standing on me. As the owner approached I said..'Hi... I'm a bit muddy!" To which she responded, "well you shouldn't be sat here, of course he's jumping up at you!" Flabbergasted I responded, "So it's my fault your dog is all over me..?" And she said yes! And then proceeded to call me a miserable sod. I mean for goodness sake, I just asked for her to get her dog off me, I should be able to enjoy my local park as well. As you can see I'm amazed at people's ignorance, brazenness and rudeness. Thoughts?

YASNBU....the owner was totally rude and out of order, she should have had control over her dog or had it on a lead....

and l have always had large dogs

Legally a dog has to be under control. What an idiot! Owner not you. All that has to happen is someone to contact the police and say the dog scratched them or even that they felt threatened and the dog could potentially be taken.
Dog owner and dog lover. Idiots like that owner give us a bad name.

YANBU. Not at all. I hate the 'entitled' attitude that some (not all) dog owners seem to have. I have a friend who lives in a small town and basically thinks that her dog should be allowed go wherever he likes. She's 'stormed' (her word) out of various shops and cafes because she was told that her dog wasn't allowed in. She's then boycotted them because of 'their attitude problem' when in all honesty, she's the one with the problem. Because the town is quite small she's running out of places to go now!

YANBU , my dog always runs up to people and I always shout don’t jump up as he does so , he actually doesn’t jump up at all , he just runs around them in a circle wagging his tail and then runs off again , but I feel at least they know I’m paying attention by telling him not to jump up .

YANBU and I say that as a dog lover and dog owner.

Yeah the owner was being a twat.

I would never let my dog approach for a stranger, whether he was likely to jump up or otherwise. Entirely for his safety, really.

Sorry you had to deal with such a numpty.
