Hotel anxiety and competitive tidying AIBU?

Currently abroad, this is our first morning. I’d forgotten how odd and anxious I get about housekeeping staff. I never make the bed at home but when I’m away I always do and try and meet their standards. Try and pre-empt what they’ll clean or tidy in the hopes I make their job easier. They always find something to do though and it makes me feel guilty!! I hate having someone clean up after me, I can’t be the only one?

I’ve done cleaning work but not in hotels and I don’t want to be one of those obnoxious customers...

Flush the loo and make sure the pillows are strewn across the entire room..... then close the door and Enjo the luxury.

Relax and enjoy your holiday! We all clean at home but having your room cleaned is what you pay for on holidays!

Dont worry about it.

But when you check out i can give you one tip as former housekeeping: throw all towels into the shower to mark which ones have been used and DO NOT MAKE THE BED to make it look tidy: this is a PITA as its then more effort to strip

What's the consensus on stripping the bed? Whenever we stay anywhere I always strip the bed after, I thought it would make their job easier and the wouldn't have to touch our slept in sheets as much - there's nothing wrong with them but I wouldn't really want to have to handle other peoples sheets.

@Eliza9917
I worker in a 5 star hotel and i can tell you i was so glad when people stripped the bed - you have a set time to complete each room and those multiple sheets and covers are HEAVY. So if somebody strips the bed its like FUCK YES!
As I said with towels, s9ke very nice and well meaning people actually painstakingly fold their towels and put them back on the rack - butbif you want to help although you absolutely dont have to obviously, dont do this! Just toss all used towels into the shower or bath. Because otherwise we waste precious seconds carefully examining the beautifully folded towel only to discover actually it has been used.

@munkynutts when you say 'people'... do men every clean and strip the beds?

munkynutts · 27/11/2017 16:28

@MrsTerryPratchett
I couldnt always tell who was a man and who was a woman.
You shouldnt even be stripping the bed anyway its not your job, im just saying dont bother yourself with making the bed becausw its counterproductive!

What used to piss me off is when i did the night turn down service, if they werent in we would go in, pull the curtains, turn on bed lamps and do the chocolates. Fine.
If they WERE in, we had to ask if they wanted their room turned down. Women ALWAYS said no (of course you would wouldnt you): cool, I always gave them the chocolayes and we would exchange a smile end of.
Men, every other man would say yes. For fucks sake. So I had to go in the room and do the whole thing whilst they just sat there. Urgh.

Ok thanks, I'll continue stripping the bed then Smile

You sound like my MIL who even polishes the taps before leaving the room.
